I know we are in a live for the moment society and what you see right now leaves a great impression, but has there ever been a better "Pure Shooter" than Steven Rush at A&T?
When he is in rhythm and has his feet are set, it's bottoms.
I know there hasn't been one since 1992, but I'm sure you old heads can think of some names. Again, not scorer or all-around player, just in terms of jump shooting.
By the way, just one of those 6-6 wide bodies(like FAMU had and like Norfolk has) in the middle and we make some serious noise next year.
Rush is making these threes coming off of screens and having a hand in his face. If we had some one in the post that demanded attention...WOW

'haze You are right on the money. I was at the game last night and there was no doubt that Rush was on fire. We were abused down low by FAMU's big boy. We need someone like with a strong stance for rebounds.

Remember the PG from Kentucky named Jonathan, He played from 96 to 99. He could really shoot too.......

It looks like he is going to carry us in the tournament and if he has one cold night we will be out. We still have to get Wills some shots

We have others who can shoot who need to step it up..... without Rush's hot hand last nite.... we probably would have lost!!

There have been plenty of good shooters at A&T in the past, too many to mention. Remember back in the 50's and 60's and part of the 70's the best black players were at HBCU's.

Carlton Becton, 6-6 small forward/guard from Morehead City from the '85-'89 championship glory years. Dude could light it up without even breaking sweat from 25 feet. Sweetest jump shot I've ever seen - no effort, perfect form.
Corvin Davis wasn't bad either from the perimeter as the two guard with "Iceman" Griffis at the point on tht same team.

Thrilla, Callton Becton is the same player ("Chuckie" Becton) that I ask you last night if you ever heard of him.

Chuckie Becton is the best pure shooter I ever saw at A&T. Chuckie played a very laid back game and could make 3 pts from either side of the court. Given his height he often create mismatches of the perimeter.

There have always been good or great pure shooters at A&T. One was sitting in the stands last night. Steven Koger. If you read the article on Joe Howell, he sort of mentioned that most of his shots would be 3 pointers in today's game (more like pro 3s). There are many that can be named: Dana Elliott, James outlaw, Joe Brawner, James Sparrow to name a few. If we could go back and look at the rosters from Howell's era until now, all of us would recognize players that were great shooters that we have forgotten. Most could shoot off the dribble and finish at the rim.
I hope Rush has shot himself out of his slump. The team needs his presence. We must also remember that Ewing made the key baskets to get us going when famu made their run. He also handle the pressure well down the stretch. I thought that he and Rush were the calming factors at the end. They did what was necessary to stave off famus (ball handling & free throws) run.

JJ Miller from about 97-00 wasn't too bad himself... Definitely better than Koger. Koger wasn't bad, but I'd put him closer to Landon Beckwith (99-03). But NONE of those compare to Rush... We'll have to consult the old heads on this one.

JJ was Jonathans back up until he left in 99. JJ was quick and had mad handles but he could not out shoot Jonathan....... Ask Terell, the assistant girls basketball coach, he played on that team....
