The school website shows a photo of David Richmond Hall. Did they name one of the Aggie Village buildings in his honor or is it a different dorm?

All four of the Scott Hall buildings are named after one of the Greensboro Four. I believe that was an idea that Aggie Mike orginally came up with last year.

The idea was initially brought to the the BOT, by Arnita Floyd-Moody, who was the SGA President 2006-07.
It just took the BOT this long to formally make the change happen, this shows us that we get hung up on stupid things like changing the name on a building after a Chancellor...that we forget to do things that promote our legacy.

I know most people agree with the naming of the dorms in honor of the A&T 4 but do any of you feel that before naming these dorms that maybe we should have had some type of discussion among students, faculty and alums. Most alums did not even know that this was being considered. What the A&T 4 did was very significant as it relates to the civil rights movement and we have a momument to them in front of the Dudley Building, but should other's have been considered for the naming of these dorms? If so, who? What do you all think about this?

Nah, they got it right by naming the buildings for the Greensboro 4. Especially since you are talking about 4 different buildings. Nodoby else should have been considered.

In the future, we need to be leading the pack as far as corporate naming rights on dorms and academics. I could see like the Dial Labs BUilding (for a science building) or like Pizza Hut Hall for a dorm.
That's the wave of the future. Does it go too far? It's very borderline but it could keep us from coming out of pocket. I bet if Crayola had it's name on the education building it'd be exactly like it was designed and not the design we could afford

I still feel that the name Scott should still be a part of those dorms in some way. Maybe the Scott complex!!! Scott Hall ment so much for so many reasons that it is hard to think that the name Scott will no longer be on a building at A&T. At least not right now, maybe in the future.

We could have a Scott Hall Memorial Scholarship Fund. Everybody that either lived in Scott, lost their virginity in Scott or just had a good time there should contribute. It takes a minimum $25,000 to endow a scholarship. There are certainly enough Scott Hall alumni and "friends" to fund it.

Kerr Scott was a racist governor of the state of North Carolina who supported the Jim Crow government of the south. His name or the name of any other former enemy to the rights of Black people should never grace the name of buildings where young Black men and women are attempting to rise up as leaders of the present and the future. I know that there is sentimental value in the name and the name alone, but consider this an opportunity to forge a new future on our Black college campuses.

I never knew that. However, when our people think of Scott Hall today we think of the home of revolutionary black students. History is history but perception is also reality

Regardless of who Scott Hall was name after (and by the way I knew the history of Scott) it was still "Scott Hall". It was a significant part of A&T's history.

This may be off the subject a little, but I need to ask a question about a rumor I heard last Homecoming. Reportedly somebody saw a guy walking around wearing a "Scott Hall Alumni" t-shirt. Did anybody else see or buy one of these shirts?

The way I see it, when I go out to eat this weekend I will be sitting there getting service because of the A&T four. According to what I've read here, if it was up to Scott, I'd still be sneaking around back and drinking from a rusty fountain. No contest.
I didn't know dude was Jim Crow. I thought he'd appropriated some cash to the school because he was some kind of agricultural pundit and the school repsonded by naming the dorm after him.

I remember when Scott was governor. He was like most politician's were back then. Just about all of them were racist. I don't know who decided to name the dorm after him. I hope it was not the BOT. Maybe Scott did it himself. I don't know who named it or why it was named but the name Scott grew into something special to those that lived there. I am sure the A&T 4 names will grow to be very special to those that live there also.

They apparently named projects all over the state after him. We used to go to W. Kerr Scott Reservoir all the time when we visited my grandparents in Wilkes County.
