I think the bell tower project is getting under way now. I had to run by campus to handle a few errands, and they had the intersection of Bluford and Obermeyer and the surrounding area blocked off with construction fencing.
Also, there is a new dorm being built across from Carver on the corner of Lindsay and Laurel st. It has been framed and a roof has been put on it.
I just thought I'd post this update for those who haven't been to campus since niether of these projects are listed on the construction web page.

Thanks for the update! When the bell tower is completed I believe that the campus will have a completely different feel. By that being the highest elevation you should be able to see it from any spot on campus with a clear line of sight. Damn...wouldn't it be nice to be an incoming freshman at T right now? I went into the new Scott Hall and I was shocked...it was QUIET and COED! I thought I'd never see the day! JC is taking A&T to another level!

Yeah, I was in the second-to-last generation to stay in the old Scott. I still haven't been in the new Scott yet. I probably never will now. But yeah, Renick's plan is for that tower to stand out. You will be able to stand at the new science building (the one right across from the stadium) and have an unobstructed view of the bell tower. they are going to turn all that open space into a grassy mall. If I am at T for grad school, that would be great to see the end of the transformation. The last time I saw A&T's campus without being littered with construction fences was the first semester of my freshman year.

From that rendering, it looks pretty tall and prominent. I'm glad. I rode by UNCG's new bell tower on accident the other day, and it is neither tall nor prominent. It looks like they just randomly picked a patch of grass and decided to put the tower there. You don't even notice its there until you're past it almost.

Uhhh....UNCG has a bell tower?? Since when? Nevermind, not important.......
Anyway, stuff is looking good! En serio...estoy orgulloso de mi universidad! I'm glad to hear of these new developments. Yall remember all those bus loads of HS students that would start rollin' up every spring semester?!.......well, these improvements are gonna make for a very persuasive argument (more than ever) in favor of T.
Good stuff!

For those of you that have not been on campus lately, they have also started construction on the new alumni events center and before the year is out they will start construction on the new school of education building which will be located at Benbow Rd. and Bluford Street. A&T has also purchased the property at the corner of Bluford St. and Dudley St. right across from the Oaks( the old chancellor's house). I hear they will be building something on that property in the near future. Just think, all of this is being done and we have not even started spending money from the capital campaign yet.

Yeah. I rolled through there Friday and Saturday and the whole area is crazy. I actually think I'm beginning to like the way they've busted up East Market cause it serves to slow the traffic down. That in turn will allow us to expand across Market a little bit and make it safer to cross.
That little shopping center is coming along. I'm mad about them making Burger Kang a bbq joint. We had plans for that place.
I didn't see any start to the bell tower itself, but the two dorms are coming along. The new science building is basically up and they've come a ways with the events center (which appears to be too small).
A new, separate football-only stadium, purchase of the baseball stadium and a couple of parking decks and we'll be set for quite a while.

I'm not sure when you made it to the last Alumni meeting, but you may want to check with you local chapter president on that.
We have been spending the money...and all of the gifts are not cash. Some of the gifts have come in the form of computers, lab equipment, etc.
Many of the cash gifts are also restricted to certain schools or departments. Some gifts are insurance policies so we won't get the money until some one passes on.
To make a long story short there isn't $100 million just siting in the bank some where waiting to be spent.
"Hard" cash gifts that are not restricted are being spent all over the campus.

I still haven't been in the new Scott yet I saw plenty of it this past year, lol (just kiddin) Now I am DEFINITELY feeling the Baseball only stadium, I mean Softball got one ITS NOT FAIR!!! (LOL) I dont know how many of have called games from War Memorial but the equipment hasn't been State of the Art since the mid 70s, kinda sucks to input CODE just to put a batters name on the scoreboard (good thing I took programming in HS)

1. The city does not plan to sell the baseball stadium. Other teams in the area use the stadium too.
2. The apartments on the corner of Lindsay St. near Laurel are privately owned. The university wanted the property for a parking deck, but was told by the city that the structure could not be built because of the creek. A parking deck is still in the plans. Most likely, as a part of the large lot near Dowdy and Hodgin. 3. I believe money is being raised for the tower. The city required the university to move forward with building the roadway around where the tower will be built.
