A&T State University has landed a three-year, $1.5 million research project to help create new electronics products for the U.S. Army. The Greensboro university has partnered with the MCNC Research & Development Corp. in Research Triangle Park for new mobile Army electronics systems. A&T and MCNC plan to develop flexible display panels and light-emitting devices that will be used in electronic communications systems that soldiers can carry into combat that will weigh less and be more durable than existing technology. The $1.5 million contract will also help establish a Center of Excellence for Battlefield Capability Enhancements at A&T. "This research project will not only benefit the Army, but it will also create great educational opportunities for our students," said N. Radhakrishnan, vice chancellor for research and economic development at A&T. "Involvement in this research program represents an important opportunity for N.C. A&T and showcases the type of cutting-edge research that takes place on our campus." A&T engineers will combine organic devices with existing engineered products to help create the flexible flat-panel display components, said Shanthi Iyer, A&T's principal investigator for the research program.
