Would a couple of preseason games be beneficial before the start of the season? It always seems the team get off to slow starts at the beginning of the season.Just wondering. Wouldn't be a good idea ( in my opinion) . You play your schedule. Playing soft touch teams does not prepare you for the regular season grind .

The only benefit I can see from it is by utilizing primarily your bench players. It should fine tune coaching abilities, especially with new assistant coaches.

I believe they're beneficial: - You get to play/practice/scrimmage against someone other than yourself. - It's like another step in getting prepared for your official season. Actually no different from teams playing lower level teams, in football, as a step in getting ready for their more important games. I like it.

I see this as a chance to give the team the opportunity to perform under game like conditions without counting toward the season. We have 8 or 9 new players to incorporate into the program to go along with the 7 returning players.Playing against yourselves is not the same as playing against others.

i would think that after every season, coach probably looks at his anticipated returning roster for next season and then plan his "early season" schedule accordingly. if he has a veteran laden team returning, then i would expect "fewer" cupcake games but at least 1 or 2. if he has a "large turnover" and brings in a lot of new players, then i would expect "more" cupcake games, perhaps 3 or 4.
all depends on the anticipated returning roster but there should "always" be a minimum of 1 or 2 cupcake games...

Yeah. Case by case (year by year) basis.

our roster is "loaded"! all of our leading scorers are back and i'm looking for both locke and curtis to have "breakout seasons" this year. also looking forward to watching the "newcomers" play, especially true freshman eva andrews and rachel griffin.
we will have a "very deep" bench, particularly given the transfers that came in. i often wonder what its like to play against the school that you just transferred from. i'm too much of a loyalist, don't think i could do it unless the school i transferred from did something to make me dislike them. the elon transfer (ajia james) will have to play against elon and the stoney brook transfer (delaney yarborough) will have to play against stoney brook, should be interesting.
if we can stay healthy enough, this team will "definitely" contend for a conference championship. should be a lot of fun to watch this season...

Can the MBB or WBB teams play as a team during the summer without violation of NCAA? I would think this would be extremely popular to promote the sport. Radford MBB team played in a tournament in Tokyo, Japan last year around the middle of August. Just asking out of curiosity. Radford actually had a player on their team from Japan that probably helped them land that trip IMO. I did not ask my friend who's son played on the team.

If it's cleared by the NCAA and all passports are approved it shouldn't be a problem. But these type of games takes years to set up. Also college sports overseas is not structured the way it is in the states. Even for basketball they usually play and compete in lower to up a tier team leagues against older more seasoned players on Club teams.
