You take money intended for scholarships and pay for your wife to attend functions, you were wrong period. I’m sorry you don’t see it that way. Please never run for treasurer of the AAF.
The 2021 article doesn’t provide any clarification. Take it up with John Newsome…

So you are deliberately ignoring the findings from the District Attorney? And the statements from the school spokesperson and vice chancellor for development and university relations? That proves your motivation is not based on the facts.
Stop trying to move the goalposts and just apologize to the Renick Family for saying he used schools funds for personal benefit. The N&R article that you posted does not even allege that he did that.

So now you believe the vice chancellor and school spokesperson. Just two days ago you were ready to start a Holy War because an intern probably making $40k a year didn't update an article fast enough for your liking. But the Chancellor removing almost $400k from an account to be used for scholarships is a vendetta.
A 2007 audit commissioned by Lloyd V. Hackley, the chancellor who succeeded Renick, found that A&T improperly transferred $380,000 in campus vending receipts to a discretionary fund controlled by Renick. The audit said that, instead of using the fund for scholarships and student activities, Renick spent a portion of it to buy art and to pay for his wife to accompany him on university business trips.
I said what I said. That money was supposed to be used for the students and travel for his wife was a benefit to him.
And my last point on this. The original post I said was this and I stand by it.
"I think there’s some revisionist history on this. A crime wasn’t committed, but there were audit findings and use of university funds for his own benefit. There were other items of note at the end of his tenure.
He did a lot of good things as well, but I’d like to see a list of all Named buildings before I say he should or shouldn’t be included."

This is sad. Instead of swallowing your pride and just admitting that you incorrectly accused Renick of something that multiple officials said he didn't do, you decide to double down on that lie and attempt to move the goalposts.
There are plenty of things you can critique Renick for during his tenure here; you dont have to invent stuff that never happened.
You asked for proof and I gave you 3 different people who said that he never used school funds for personal gain. And yet you still want to continue this charade.
That says more about you than it does Renick.

Nothing you posted says that this statement is untrue:

And nothing in that statement says he used school funds for his own benefit.
The DA said he did not use funds for his own benefit.
The university spokeperson said he did not use funds for his own benefit.
The vice chancellor for development and university relations said he did not use funds for his own benefit.
The article you posted does not even say he used school funds for his own benefit.
The only person who said he used school funds for his own benefit is you. And for some reason you refuse to apologize for spreading that misinformation about a dead man.

You bolded out the first part put not the second any violations of UNC system policy did not rise to the level of breaking the law.

Using the funds for your wife to go on business trips is a benefit. You're right. It was a benefit to the university. The district attorney and multiple school officials confirmed that.

I love how people ask for proof ... and then proceed to ignore that proof when it doesn't support their argument. lol.
You must have graduated from the Aggie2039 school of debating. "I stand by my statement ... because there is nothing else I can do to change the facts".

Not that it matters much, but imo his wife travelling with him was a benefit to him, unless he ain't like her a$$ or she was the Hillary to his Bill.
Regardless, I think he deserves a non-academic and non-sports-related building. Like the union.
Seems like Jesse should get a building affiliated with poli-sci and/or history.
Just my unsolicited and weightless opinions on the subject(s).

And that's how easy it is to sully the reputation of a person who is no longer here to defend themselves.
The Accusation: His political enemies accused him of stealing money from a scholarship fund for his own personal benefit. They want you to believe he was greedy, selfish and a criminal.
The Truth: The university later went on record and said it was an honest mistake and the rules of the funds were very confusing. Moreso, all the money used by Renick was for the ultimate benefit of the school.
If the DA investigated the case and said he only used money to benefit the school ... and the school officials later went on record and said he only used money to benefit the school, why are you guys still continuing to act like he did something intentionally nefarious?
Your 'honest opinion' does not trump the documented facts in this situation.

Personally I don't see how pointing out using the funds to bring his wife on trips benefitted him sullies his reputation. Especially since I personally don't believe he purposefully went out of his way to misuse the funds nor do I believe he had any ill intent whatsoever. Sorry you thought that's what I meant.
My opinion is rules are rules, he broke a minor one, in the end nobody really cared, no harm, no foul.
I assume in due time he will have his name on a building.

At the end of the day, it seems the relationship between the then Chancellor and the BOT soured. That led to members of the Board scouring all books to find any discrepancies to remove the Chancellor of the time.
As a result, there are Aggies on both sides of this strongly ten toes down and aren't wavering on their convictions here.
He should get a building named after him and I think it will happen within out lifetime.
End of story.

Damn! Folks on the board serious out this…but as Aggie as I am, I can’t bring myself to care. Some folk get a building named after them, and some don’t…no matter how deserving they may be. I’d like to see Jackson and others get their names on buildings…but I know that’s not gonna happen…it’s a good thing to have more people deserving of their names on buildings than building available.

Broadway needs to have a street named after him, or put a sign at the entrance to Truist Stadium and call the road into the parking lot "Broadway"
