I have a buddy that posted on facebook that Howard received a record nearly 37,000 applications for admission this year. I'm assuming the Celebration Bowl had something to do with it.
One of the responses to his post stated Ayantee had 41,000 applications with a freshman profile of a 3.8 gpa, 1130 SAT, and 23 ACT, and only accepted 3,000 applicants. The guy responding said his kid applied to Howard and Ayantee and while Howard was a pain in the a$$, Ayantee was seamless. The Howard folk responding thereafter was heated.
My question or observation is, we're not in the MEAC anymore, but we're breaking all sorts of application and quality of incoming student records. Is any of that attributable to our move to the CAA or is it just continued growth due to Chancellor Martin's (Ultron's) vision?

The goal is elevation and prioritizing the betterment of the school, not blind allegiance to a conference. Glad academic profiles are also rising, that makes A&T more attractive to a larger market of students / parents, that also correlate with higher salaries, thus more donations. The A&T brand is better than its ever been.

Yes.
The strategy is to get AA kids from CAA areas ( VA, MD, PA, NY, NJ, MA vs the deep south. Those kids don't have the access to as many HBCUs as the kids in the south do.

End of affirmative action and assault on DEI are likely factors- students want to to go places where they are welcomed and celebrated.

End of affirmative action and assault on DEI are likely factors- students want to to go places where they are welcomed and celebrated. We had 37K last year, dei is not a factor Kids do not care about dei, dei is a recent thing that didn't really exist in college prior to George Floyd Kids care about shiny new toys on campus (women, housing, cafe, academic buildings) and partying. The end of DEI and Affirmative action does not mean kids are not appreciated on PWI campuses. One of my co-workers son whom is black and has a 3.8GPA is looking at USF, Davidson and A&T. Not once has DEI or affirmative action come up in conversation...women, school cost and scholarship money always comes up. His dad is a Hampton grad.

Nah, the post I saw said specifically "they only accepted 3,000." Might've been a copy of a tweet since it was full of hashtags but since I don't have twitter... Yes. The strategy is to get AA kids from CAA areas ( VA, MD, PA, NY, NJ, MA vs the deep south. Those kids don't have the access to as many HBCUs as the kids in the south do. We were already getting a ton of kids from those areas weren't we? And there's only so many out-of-staters we can admit. We already got penalized for going over the out-of-state enrollment cap. So I gots to figure Ultron's Vision is the reason for the season. And I figure most kids actually don't care about what conference we're in one way or the other. I guess we're the "cool" thing.

I wonder where the 3,000 number came from? Me too. Cause we could easily do more. Maybe housing plays into it?

Just my opinion , but after MD I don't think we are. It seems we are doing kinda what HPU is doing. Bringing middle class folks from the North to a Mid South university. They are targeting whites and we are targeting Blacks

I do believe being in the CAA has changed our academic branding. Those schools are now peer institutions... In the HBCU world our peers are Howard, FAMU, Morehouse and Spellman.

I don’t know what it is, but HBCU are trending up. I recently attended the Eastern Region Jack & Jill Teen Conference. Each year they recognize the graduating seniors at a Gala. At the end each senior takes the stage to announce their college selection, of the ~400 seniors (in my opinion) at least half chose HBCUs. Years past there was a sprinkling of HBCU selections.
