FCS, Division I-AAA working group aims to 'chart a path for the future' Amid unprecedented disruption in college athletics, Football Championship Subdivision members and Division I-AAA leaders from non-football-playing schools are ramping up discussions in a relatively newly formed working group intended to empower like-minded stakeholders to begin formulating a sustainable path forward. The working group – whose existence has not previously been reported – was created in late fall as the pace of change in college sports accelerated. Since then – on the heels of the NCAA unveiling its reform proposal and numerous developments in the courts and with the National Labor Relations Board – the frequency of meetings has increased to almost weekly, with its smaller subcommittees conversing daily. The working group consists of more than 200 leading stakeholders at the FCS and Division I-AAA levels. “There is change coming, and we know we can’t continue to operate in the status quo,” Ryan Ivey, the working group’s co-chair and Stephen F. Austin athletic director, told On3 on Thursday. “We’re trying to be proactive … I don’t think there is any question that the urgency has picked up. Hence the frequency of meetings.” www.on3.com/os/news/ncaa-fcs-division-i-aaa-working-group-chart-path-for-college-sports-future-stephen-f-austin-ryan-ivey/

The entire make up with that College Football will look like is unknown.
I've even seen an article about a entirely new divison
Power 5 - ACC, Big 10, Big 12 , SEC
New division - Which will have all the G5 teams
then FCS , then D2, D3

Make the CAA a G5 conference

Make the CAA a G5 conference Only those in a position to move up. This makes our reasons upgrades and conference shifts so important. The university has to give the athletics department as many options as possible.

Have we hired a soccer coach?
Have we hired a field hockey coach?
Have we hired a lacrosse coach?
I don't think we are in the next 10 years.

And the only sport we’re bringing on line by 2030 is Women’s Soccer. I guess we could add Women’s field hockey and Lax but that’ll modify the calculus for our capital campaign. Of course, most of that is pending how fast we can get that field and student fitness center built.

Another post about why A&T can not do something

We do not need lacrosse or field hockey, just soccer. Another post about why A&T can not do something 2039 speaks the truth when he talks about Aggies downing and doubting our programs. No doubt that NCAT has "deficiencies"...lack of program strength due to facilities, budget, and over all admin. Those issues however can be over come. Take a look at the programs of three in state schools we consider peers. ECU - ecupirates.com/UNCC - charlotte49ers.com/ASU - appstatesports.com/The obvious difference is they are FBS and we are FCS in football...besides that, their sports offerings are not much different. They just have bigger budgets, better facilities, and have put a greater focus on athletics longer than we have at NCAT. ASU has a wrestling program, but no men's tennis team...their ladies play soccer instead of bowling...outside of that we offer the same programs. UNCC has a men's and women's soccer teams (no bowling)...they just added a women's Lacrosse team, the first season is 2024-25...outside of that we offer the same programs. ECU is the same song and dance with a few changes. No bowling team, but their ladies have a Swimming/Diving team. Their ladies play Tennis, but the men don't...instead both men and women play Soccer and lacrosse. We aren't talking P5 flagship schools here... UNC-CH goheels.com/ for example...Their men compete in all the same sports the rest of us do as well as Fencing and Swimming/Diving. Same for the UNC women...their ladies compete in all the same sports the rest of us do, but they also have women's Field Hockey, Rowing, Swimming/Diving, Fencing, and Gymnastics. I say all that just to emphasize, that we have said we can't for so long that we have "internalized" it. On the surface we don't look that different, we have to make the types of upgrades in the background that will not only enhance, but bring us in line with other D1 programs. We can compete with them academically and athletically.

Of course, most of that is pending how fast we can get that field and student fitness center built. As long as A*T meets the NCAA limits no other spots need to be added . Head-count" sports, in which the NCAA limits the total number of individuals that can receive athletic scholarships, but allows each player to receive up to a full scholarship. "Equivalency" sports, in which the NCAA limits the total financial aid that a school can offer in a given sport to the equivalent of a set number of full scholarships. Roster limitations may or may not apply, depending on the sport. The term "counter" is also key to this concept. The NCAA defines a "counter" as "an individual who is receiving institutional financial aid that is countable against the aid limitations in a sport. At this time A&T meets all of the requirements. Adding other sports is a choice by the institution but not a requirement. Also the unnecessary addition of other sports will only affect the Athletics Department Financial stability. The question that should be asked is, does A&T need financial burden of those other the sports 🤔.
