Interesting to see what our numbers look like this year with no big engagements already on the books.
The ESPN event in December is no guarantee and highly doubt we'd get selected 2 years in a row, even if we are defending champs.

The ESPN event in December is no guarantee and highly doubt we'd get selected 2 years in a row, even if we are defending champs. Sure, the Rose Parade draws some additional band members but what drives our numbers more are scholarships! You got the money; you got the numbers. I "heard" that Chancelor Martin had raise the scholarship pool from $100,000 to $150,000 last year and the increase in band members reflected that increase. Hell, there are dozens of former high school band students enrolled at A&T every year that aren't in the BGMM. Put some tuition cash on the table and a bunch of then will quit their parttime jobs at Walmart and join the band! Oh, by the way, our 2024 football schedule is perfect for BGMM Band members...4 HBCU games (trash talking opportunities to friends marching in their bands), instate games against Elon, Wake Forest, and Campbell (Band Parents can drive to these games) and great road trips to Villanova, Richmond and Towson. And knowing Dr. Ruff, there will be some surprise road trips somewhere. And if things work out well, we may be back in Atlanta for the Band of the Year Award again. Next band season may not have a trip to LA but it's not a bad schedule.

If it's based on field performance, we absolutely will be back this December. We have a whole 6 or 7 months to work on next fall's show and we know what worked the last time... never count Dr. Ruff and his team out! I think the judges will think twice about voting us the winner just to protect their safety but we'll be there!
