Welp, we signed 2 QBs without an announced or employed OC.

Our most glaring weakness was the QB position. Our most glaring weakness was at the offensive coordinator position. I think any of the guys we had last season could have been way more productive if we had a competent person calling plays. If Brown can make a good hire with his next OC, I think we can experience an immediate leap forward on the offensive side of the ball. However, based on what we signed today on defense we might have to outscore most teams to win games in 2024.

Overall, I thought we had a good Early Signing Day. I know we need some defensive and offensive linemen but I agree with Aggie One that they will most likely come during the next phase of this recruiting cycle...

I think we are too early at judging the quality of this recruiting class, most of the big men we lost, went to FBS programs except two who signed with JSU and Howard. There are at least 10-15 big men that we offered who have not signed with anyone, three or four of them are JUCO players, Personally I feel that we can possibly sign three of that group and they are bigguns in the ranges of 295-315 lbs from 6’2 -6’6 don’t sweat the process

Folks are understandably concerned since this is a similar scenario to last season. Some posters kept saying, don't worry, help is coming on the defensive line. Trust the Process, if you will. As we know, that help never came!
I'm gonna try and let the recruiting process play out before passing judgment. If we're being strategic we're holding out for real difference makers on the defensive line. I can appreciate that. I saw Day One as that old NFL dilemma for a struggling team. Do you draft for need or best available player? Outside of qb I think we did the latter.

I’m sure the staff knows the deficiencies on both sides of the line however it’s disappointing to not see “any” commitments in the trenches. It can still happen, but ideally I’d like to think you’d want guys that you want contributing next season in school at the beginning of the spring semester for a number of reasons. That’s not a long time from now.

Signing day is in Feb.

Simply put, the sooner you can get kids in you plan on contributing during the season the better so they can learn the schemes, get adjusted to the actual academic piece of the school while also bonding with their new teammates. That process starting in August with a game a few weeks later can happen but isn’t ideal.

Again, let's not move the goal posts here. Coach Brown was clear at the end of this season that the main priority for this program was getting bigger on the defensive side of the ball.
He was crystal clear about that.
In theory he still has plenty of time to address that need, but phase one of his offseason plan did not accomplish that. It seems like they made a lot of attempts to accomplish that, but were ultimately unsuccessful.
We don't have to sit here an pretend that Coach Brown is playing 4 dimensional chess every time things do not go the way we hoped. All these other school are trying to recruit difference making D-linemen too. You win some; you lose some. But right now we have not won any major recruiting battles for bigtime D-lineman.

Signing day is in Feb. Remind us who those 3 interior linemen were we signed. As for offensive line I think we are ok. It was by far our deepest position last season. The fact they underperformed imo was the result of ineffective coaching. We have a great OL coach in Mattes. Pairing him with the right coordinator will be key.

Could we perhaps define what this process is we're waiting on. I specifically mean the process of waiting for these linemen to determine whether or not they're going P5 or G5. What are the dates tied to this process, when can we expect the players in the trenches to make up their minds?

South Carolina, Louisville, Virginia Tech and Marshall were the schools he’d previously considered his finalists. Then, the Aggies came calling. Inside a 48-hour span, Coles had visited the school’s campus and offered his commitment. N.C. A&T is known for “the greatest homecoming on earth,” an annual weeklong celebration at the HBCU institution that culminates with the Aggies’ nationally-televised homecoming game. Wednesday marked Coles’ final day of high school; he’ll enroll at A&T sometime between Jan. 11 and Jan. 16, he said.
