Wash wasn’t fired. He saw what was ahead this season and decided it wasn’t worth the headache.
That other dude was obviously a dud from the second he was hired.
Of course none of that really has anything to do with why a qb who showed good playing ability last year, whether on scholarship or not, didn’t see the field on a team that was LAST IN THE NATION IN PASSING OFFENSE for half the year.

With Brickhandler leaving Coach Brown needs to make real nice with Hooker, seems like this coach has his favorites and if that's the case we are in for a lot of losing seasons.

I'm gonna say EVERY coach has favorites, whether they say it or not. And that don't mean there will be a lot of losing seasons. Also, there will be QBs in the portal.

When someone would ask Coach Brown why he was not playing Hooker he would always say that he starts who performed best in practice that week. Damn, Hooker must have looked awfully bad in practice considering how the qb's that were starting performed in games. It is mighty strange that he waited to the last damn game to play him. Mighty suspicious. Probably hoping he would be a bust so fans would quit asking about him. So I snuck into practice one day and all the QB’s were at the 20 yards line with a full defense and full offense. Hooker completed 4 out of 4 passes. All the other QB’s were either 1-4 of 0-4. That’s just a brief snap shot in time but I think it still makes a statement! Brown was observing the drill the entire time

I see some of y’all have the tinfoil hats on in here, how was Hooker the backup to Fowler when it was Yaeger and Brick who got in against Central and Puke last year? Is that revisionist history or was he the backup at the end of the season after the other two had the shot?
Maybe the kid just didn’t do enough in practice to separate himself under two separate staffs, regardless of a stray anecdotal about how somebody walked up to practice and saw him looking like Pat Mahomes while the rest of the QBs looked like also-rans. Maybe the kid is just a better game day performer than he is a practice player, maybe he also got in after Campbell stopped playing to stop our offense and switched to prevent D (and a mix of starters and young players), maybe he is the guy going forward but all the conspiracy stuff in here is wild. I’d like to see if that performance actually translates to an 11 game season next year though, at least a full game. Hopefully we get a chance to see him prove it from the first snap so the debate can be settled.

It’s also fully possible that both staffs were wrong on Hooker, Ohio State was wrong about Burrow iirc.

Not downplaying Hooker's playing ability, however I think y'all are forgetting that the only reason he got the playing time he did last year under Washington was due to injuries from Yeager, Brick, and Fowler. He was always last man to be picked for both regimes.

yeager, brick, and fowler "were not" all injured during all 6 of the games hooker played in. matter fact, hooker was our "starter" in the charleston southern game but fowler also played in that game...

It’s also fully possible that both staffs were wrong on Hooker, Ohio State was wrong about Burrow iirc. Very wrong. But they also had Justin Fields and CJ Stroud.

Brick was done for the year after the SCSU It’s great that Hooker got in for those games. But they were all blowouts, except CSU and he only threw passes in four of those games. A total of 13 passes for the year doesn’t really show that he was being groomed. I do believe they were gonna give him extended time against CSU, but when the offense sputtered they went right back to Fowler.
