If scoring is going to be an issue, we need to learn how to defend.

QUESTION: Where is Marquavious Brown?? I haven't heard one word about him. Did he show up for camp?? Is he still out with that injury?? Marquavious Brown is one of the 100 guards on our team from, you guessed it, Georgia. Unless he has grown to 6'10/250 & can be a presence in the paint, he won't be able to provide the help the team requires. He will simply be another guard who can't shoot, rebound, or hit free throws-all attributes of an A&T basketball player. The way we're looking, our women's team could beat the men's team in a best of 5 series.

Although I'm a glass half full kind of guy, there won't be very many positives out of this team this season. Scheme doesn't help you when you cannot rebound, score in the paint, nor hit the ocean with a softball while standing in the sand at high tide. This has been A&T basketball for the past few years, with the exception of the Showtime in Corbett Gym years with all of those high-flying athletes we had. This squad has minimal athleticism, are EGREGIOUSLY TINY (did they pick up a dumbbell or 5lb plate in the offseason?), & won't be competitive in the CAA. None of us should be surprised nor offended by the prognosticators picking us to finish 14th of 14 teams. We're that bad. What's getting a new AD going to do? He didn't fly to Belgrade, Serbia & Athens, Greece & bring back negative 2 star projects. We are missing the boat on some players in & around the Carolinas by maintaining this love affair & fascination with kids from everywhere but NC. The kids we do have from NC aren't D1 players, & it's frustrating to see low/mid-major pwi teams (Campbell, Charlotte, Gardner-Webb, UNC-G/W) get the NC kids from 336/828/919/980/704/252 who COULD make a difference while we chase zero star kids from Canada, Europe, Arkansas &, of course, Atlanta & surrounding suburbs. It's embarrassing. You know...As I sit & stew in my own sauce after another Aggie loss & auto tune flosports for 1pm tomorrow, I "get" the calls for a new AD. We hired coaches with CAA (read:PWI coaches) whom they thought were the best candidates. After our football team goes 1-10 & basketball team finishing with 20+ losses, it will be a safe bet to say that mistakes were made in both hires, and our desire to change the cultural narrative at A&T will cost us dearly for years. SMH. π€¦πΎββοΈπ€·π½ββοΈ Donβt start that crap again! For Christ sake you cry so much over where kids come from, Jesus. A&T has 7 players from NC, UNCG has 5, Campbell has 4, GW has 3. I do not know why you are so fixated on NC kids, this is extremely personal to you so your view of the world is clouded and biased, filled with an inaccurate view of things.

Need a new AD for the last time! Thatβs the answer; AD needs to go immediately. Tired of his what he has brought in over the years.

I have someone in the crowd watching for me. Do tell! A certain Scotsman was at the game as a spectator.

If scoring is going to be an issue, we need to learn how to defend. Everything will come as a challenge for this team until they gel in games and learn Coach Ross's system, whatever that is. We as fans need to also figure out how Coach Ross wants these kids to play out there. Hopefully we will learn more about his system or scheme from questions at his press conference next week.

SMH. π€¦πΎββοΈπ€·π½ββοΈ No one is surprised or arguing that we should be ranked higher than 14th in the CAA MBB preseason poll. With all the changes from last season our ultimate goal for this season should be to compete hard in every game, not get embarrassed out there on the court (close to failing this specific goal in their 1st 2 games), and not finish last in the CAA. Early goals are to learn from these games what we do well and what we need to improve on as the season progresses. Don't get me wrong by thinking we can't judge or critique the team or coach. I am not saying that at all. I am saying to be honest in your expectations for this 2023-24 MBB team. Mostly D3 schools and some D2 schools are filled with lots of in-state players these days. Mid-major D1 schools typically have less than half their roster filled with in-state players. What mid-major D1 teams are you trying to compare A&T with in regards to doing a better job in "signing" the "total number of in-state players"? I like to use the word "sign" because A&T can offer 50 scholarships every year to in-state players, but the players in the end choose where they want to play. What evidence do you have that Coach Ross is overlooking in-state players? Here is a complete list of NC D1 schools for reference to compare against A&T. www.nccsia.org/information/List_of_NC_SchoolsBy definition of being a mid-major or high-major school you are suppose to attract more out of state talent. What is the point of having that label if you can't attract the best talent from all over the world and that goes for academics as well? Lastly, based on how you are commenting about the current team, if you were a very talented NC HS senior basketball player and Coach Ross offered you an A&T basketball scholarship I doubt that you would sign. Should Coach Ross, who is a 1st year coach interested in signing in-state talent, take the sole blame for your current impression as a HS senior of the A&T MBB program and your desire not to play for a bad team? Two people take part in closing the deal. Recruiting is hard, especially for a 1st year coach with a shorten recruiting season. Talented current players like to play for or join good programs these days and this has gotten worse with these powerhouse Select and AAU basketball programs. In addition, more recruitment of players are even being allowed at the HS level to where these dynasty programs are being formed with players from different zip codes, states, and countries. How many schools has LeBron sons played for in HS? Have you heard of the popular phrase all these parents, coaches or recruiters are telling players, "iron sharpens iron"? Interpretation - don't play with bad players or for bad programs because you won't learn much or develop as quickly. These new generation players are taking this to heart. To be very competitive and successful in D1 in this age, you need to find talent all over. Our issue is not that we are overlooking in-state talented players. It is that our basketball program right now is not attractive to a lot of "ready-made or plug-in" talented college players out there and that we are going to have to take the best players we can sign right now and "develop them into good or great players." Do we have the right coach to do this is questionable right now and will we be patience to allow this to happen or find out? Correction, with the transfer portal I need to add that the players also will need to trust the process and not leave early as well. A sign of the times.

With 14 new players this team is going to struggle badly. Defense and rebounding is where they need the most improvement. I still don't understand the decision to recruit so many guards? We're being doubled up on the boards although a lot of that is guys being out of position.
I still saw some good things in the second half once they stopped playing reckless one on one ball and just jacking up 3 pointers with their eyes closed.
1. They started passing the ball more out of their half court sets which led to some open 3 pointers which they knocked down. They finished at 33% which was an improvement.
2. They started driving the ball to the basket, drawing fouls on UNCG. If we knock down most of those free throws this game would have finished in single digits.
3. I think we only turned the ball over 8 times which is something to build on.
At one point it looked like we would lose by at least 40 pts but they buckled down and played much better in the second half of the 2nd half. If only we could rebound!

Dear Respondent: Sounds & reads like you're one of those types who accept losing & all of the cultural elements & mindsets of those who find solace in the "silver linings" of 30-50 point losses. I "harp" on where kids are from because I KNOW FROM PERSONAL EXPERIENCE of young men (& women) who wanted to wear the navy & old gold & whose coaches reached out with hudl or other platform film, & our esteemed coaches NEVER FOLLOWED UP/RESPONDED. Those kids then took their skill set & academic acumen elsewhere (like that place up 85N/40W for example) & play with a pissed-off mentality & purpose & beat the brakes off of us. So, you can take your noteworthy statistical analysis & share it with excuse makers anonymous. Until we can successfully recruit in our backyard & make the program "attractive" again, we will always swim with the catfish regardless of the conference in which we play.

Get the fellas some contact lenses & mandatory sessions in the weight room with a bulking weight gain nutrition program included. This is the most unathletic group I've EVER seen! That, & mandatory sessions in how to shoot, box out, & having SOME SORT of an inside presence. Do we play Southeastern Qu'Ran College of The Lost/Found Nation of Islam, Harris Barber College, & Richard Petty's School of Racin'? If not, we may not win a game. When have our Football AND Basketball teams been THIS BAD AT THE SAME TIME??? This is embarrassing. Well, we can stop complaining about the Offensive Coordinator and add our Men's Basketball Coach to that list. I realize he's playing with midgets this season, but he could teach them some basketball fundamentals. Oh well, looks like we'll have wait until the 2024-25 season to see if this team can compete in the CAA.

Those 10+ new faces ain't it. It's like we scoop up what's left when 415 other D1/D2/NAIA/JuCo programs are done recruiting. Like our new dude from Greece. Does he have a point or rebound through our first 2 games? I'll ask again...WHO IS THE PRIMARY EVALUATOR OF TALENT? AND...Is there a cross-checking process? These dudes Ross brought in by & large are not mid-major D1 basketball players. That's the reality. We need more trinkets and carrots to dangle in front of recruits out of HS and in the Transfer Portal overall. However, we got two games with these guys and unfortunately, we as fans gotta either give these young ones patience and grace, or find other things to entertain ourselves. So far, the best bet is the Lady Aggie Basketball team! The men's team is going to be a snooze fest, but the ladies may be the best ticket yet!

He also signed a very impressive '24 class, with an eye on pitching and hitters with some pretty good NC kids in the class. Football and basketball could take a cue from Ben.

I have been saying the same things for years about how A&T let's players in their own back yard get away to other program ,and the ones want to complete for Tee only or even being treated as walk on talent and not given a fair equal opportunity to complete..i.e Hooker in the spring game was just as effective as Eli and more effective then Yeager but has not seen the field this season . Some think that the high school athletes and parents don't see how local kids are ignored or treated and then wonder why they end up at Howard,Richmond, Hampton, Elon, Campbell or any program not A&T . I made the same quote about our back yard and received all type of excuses and BS π π€£ π. You are correct A&T should control the Greensboro try and region for FCS Talent ,but we don't.
