The No. 1 highlight in any former band geek's life is to be able to hang out on the track during GHOE. There are usually enough people on that track to overthrow a small country.
This new rule will not be received well.

so those "freeloaders" not buying tickets that people always speak of. They were talking about band alumni. I get it now.

It is always organized confusion when the band enters the stadium, so if you are low on funds you can just walk in with the support staff and make your way through the gates.

This is disappointing. Embracing alumni and seeing them celebrate the cultural pageantry that is unique to our schools is something that I and so many Black college alumni really look forward to. I am sure folks may remember this clip that went viral of a former Ebony Fire dancer at Hampton University leading the other alumni dancers/majorettes last year. See the clip below: www.youtube.com/watch?v=AujXUG7XU6MWe have traditionally done the same every year dating back at least 30 years or more and I love to see each generation of drum majors and Golden Delight dancers doing their thang. I will take Ruff at his word that the band room is too small, but I am not certain what the harm is to allow past dancers and drum majors on the track to do their thang as the band marches in. Maybe he is sending a message that band alumni need to donate more in order to have access. I don't really know....but I do know that I am going to miss this tradition and I am sure I am not alone. Dr Ruff is focused on the Rose Bowl fundraising and possibly getting another check from ESPN. They can't do both? And is it a general assumption that the band alumni were freeloading and not buying tickets to get into the stadium? Or is that a fact? I will admit that it usually is a lot of them down on the track...I just never assumed that they were ALL getting in the stadium for free. P-Funk (I believe that's the name of the band routine when they march back into the stand) will never be the same without seeing all of the old heads represent their generation. It always gave a sense of family and tradition. I hate to see that go away. Oh well. That's Ruff's call...I'm sure there has to be another reason other than "too many people down on the track."
