[We have gone from suga to chit in one season under his watch. I'm not saying the wheels have fallen off, but the way I see it Small has something to prove this season...now more than ever seeing that the kids on the field are his. .... except the quarterbacks

What good would it do block Schoolfield from leaving? If the man wants to go, I say let him go. Of this would create a huge obstacle for us, but the last thing we want is disgruntled OC with his attentions elsewhere. Plus how can we say to an ex-head wait until next year another head coaching job, especially after his offense avg. 7 points a game this year. The future is always now.

This whole situation sucks. The best scenario we can hope for is that FAMU decides to go with another candidate in the next few days and School quickly refocuses on his work at A&T.
If Schoolfield gets this job we are more screwed than the music they like to play in my hometown of Houston.

Maybe fam will get all entralled with the oc from Ariz. and give him the job. If offered the job, I believe Schoolfield will go to his alma mater.
Like Aggie 77 said, to deny Schoolfield the chance to coach his old school would be bad because Small would have a disgruntled oc callin the offense. You can't tell me School would not try to f**k up the offene outta spite.

hell, this was a possibility the day he was hired. I'm sure there was a contingency plan. Wait, this is a staff that didn't take a knee and almost cost us two games as a result. There is no contingency plan. But just as famu found head coaching candidates there are dozens upon dozens of good o.c. candidates out there that are jobless. We just might actually have to hire one without the head coach already knowing him and only going on his ability to coach

All this talk is speculative right now...we really don't know how this thing is gonna play out. This could very well end up being the first big power play for Lady Dee in her AD role!

Small needs to grow some nuts and put his foot down. Enough is enough. His job is on the line this year an he's need to make sure his staff has some continuity heading into the season

Obviously if School is a finalist Small has given his permission. It's a helluva crap shoot on his part given the time of year. I guess if FAMU hires School then Berry or Patterson will be moved up to OC.

Can you imagine one of those other clowns as offensive coordinator? We would become Jackson State overnight. I hope like hell FAMU picks someone else. If School sticks around he might find what he's looking for right here in Greensboro.

I can understand the sentiment expressed that he should honor his commitment here first but in any open job market, you cannot realistically deny the right of the indvidual to pursue possible career improvement. To chastise Small for "allowing" him to interview is unfair. You can rest assured there was considerable consultation with Todd on this.
Being a former successful coach herself, she understands that coaching is a business first even at this level and to deny him that right to look at all his options would not be ethical or smart, especially if things don't work out for him.
I'd would be surprised if the new administration picked Schoolfield despite being a FAMU grad and a popular favorite with some of the alumni down there. But there is equal sentiment among Rattlers that the split at Fort Valley is an issue because of his temperment with higher ups.
Given what I have witnessed with their decision making over the last few weeks, the pending NCAA sanctions which probably will be severe, I don't think that job will be as tempting as he may think after he talks to them.
My gut tells me that their new chancellor probably wants someone with no prior affiliation with FAMU to get a fresh start. I think it will be between Rubin Carter or Alex Wood.

Schoolfield already experienced career improvement three months ago when Small threw him a life raft and rescued him from that assistant coaching position on that semi-pro team. He needs to count his blessings that he has a decent gig, be grateful to Small for the gig, and prepare for an important 2005 campaign.
If not, his career ambition could get Small canned after this season.

Evidently, Lee applied for the job also.
The nine-member committee also recommended three alternate finalists, Arizona Cardinals wide receivers coach Robert Ford, North Carolina A&T defensive coordinator Alonzo Lee and Seattle Seahawks running backs coach Lyvonia "Stump" Mitchell.

It may not be this year, but if I were a betting man, and we have a above average season, say 8-3 or better, I would bet both of them will gone by 2006 to other jobs.
