I was just on the net today looking at the athletic facilities at some of the big-hitting ACC schools. I was completely astonished by the palatial degree of luxury they enjoy, and I couldn't help thinking how great it would be if A&T were to ever get to that level. I wanted to see what everyone else thinks: NCState gopack.collegesports.com/sports/m-footbl/spec-rel/073003aab.htmlUNC tarheelblue.collegesports.com/sports/m-footbl/spec-rel/073002aaa.htmlThis really puts in perspective the ridiculously immense amount of capital it would take to make the step up to 1-A AND BE COMPETITVE. Do you all think A&T athletics will ever get to such a level? How long do you think it will take? While we're on the subject, post your dream-list of facility upgrades.

That stuff is unreal. I'd love to see A&T at that level, but we have much more important things to spend our money on.
Our facilities are no where near some of these ACC schools, but we stack up nicely when compared to other I-AA schools.
If we can get a new pressbox and a decent practice field we'll be set.

Yeah, I agree. I was thinking we should get a turf practice field. Besides, the old practice field now has to compete with the new softball complex for space. The only question is where would they put it?

Speaking of practice fields, I rolled by Carolina Circle Mall the other day and they still have all that artifical turf rolled up, just sitting out there. They removed that turf almost a year ago from the complex and I guess no one wanted to buy it from them. I just know we could call up the old Pyramid Fitness owners and get a couple of hundred of feet of turf for dirt cheap right now. I'm talkin pennies to the dollar. We could probably even persuade them to install it at a discount too. This would be a much better alternative than having players like Bud Phillips tear his ACL on the current field because he stepped in a PUTHOLE. Do you think Wake or Carolina ever lost a player due to crappy practice facilities? If so somebody within the groundskeeper crew probably got fired and they fixed the problem the next day.

Hey, don't we play in the RCA Dome this year?
I would hate for us to go out and pay someone to rent their turf field so we can practice on it that whole week (like we did in 2003 for the Vegas game), when instead we could just use some foresight and buy our own turf for probably dirt cheap.

Somebody should suggest that to the powers that be. Even if they're not sure where to put a new turf practice field, they can at least snatch up the materials while they're cheap.

I sent an email to Charlie Davis about the turf last year and suggested it to Wheeler Brown one day at practice last summer. This was before the softball field was completed and just weeks after they first removed the turf from the Pryamids complex.

Also, it would be nice if the practice field was one of those indoor-type setups.
I think the fitness and wellness center isn't far behind the big boys at all. It is just more utilitarian, without all of the wood trim and extra stuff. The weight room in there is definitely on that level, at least by comparison of pictures. The main difference is mostly in the "extras" that aren't really necessary (plasma screens, pool tables, leather couches, hall-of-fame, etc, etc.)
