Kayla finished 6th a few days ago in 22.54. Jackson beat Gabby Thomas in the same race. Kayla has got to get under 22 to make world championship finals

Richardson "Barely" made the 100m finals . Had to wait for the out come of the second Simi final heat . What counts is she made it .

She looked like she was cruising so obviously she has more to give. Let's hope that she saved some for the finals.

What counts is she made it . agreed. we're talkin' bout the best in the "world"! making the usa team alone is a major accomplishment. but qualifying for the "finals" in and of itself makes kayla one of the top sprinters " in the world" in her event! how many folk can say they're one of the best in the world in their profession? kudo's to kayla! any accomplishments beyond making the finals will be "frosting on the cake"...

She eased up at the tape and went from 1st ? to 3rd . Don't understand why she would do that ... The next race is the next day. ... My coach said run through the tape... Doesn't placement or time impact lane placement

Doesn't placement or time impact lane placement Yes the best times usually get the centered lanes..i.e preferred Lanes 3,4,5,6 . The lower times usually get 1,2,7,8,9 . But Richardson was in lane 9 in the 100m . Lane placement only puts you in a situation where you're in the center(preferred lanes) with the supposedly faster competition and athlete can get a better view of the field. But if you're prepared and run your race lane placement doesn't matter because many have won Ships running in lane 7,8,9 and even from 1,2 and 3 . It's all on the runner and there focus. Strong curve runners prefer Lanes six to nine but we will see.

Don't think lane placement in the 100 is the same as lane placement in the 200 & 400. Of course people have won in other lanes but I will bet nobody in a curved (200 or 400 ) race ever asked to be in lanes (1-3) . Kayla is tall so I doubt that she will run as well inside as outside 1-3 . Lane 7&8 seem to be preferred to lane 3 . But regardless of lane assignment, what is gained by easing up in the last 20 meters when you have a day before you run again? Ross appeared to do that in the olympics 400.

Lane placement should not be a factor period in my opinion especially at this level regardless of the race but a lot prefer the middle lanes to get a better view of the stagged field that is the only advantage being in the center lanes provides. Regardless of your lanes outside of 9 a runners focus has to be on his stagger awareness and focus.. 1 has to pick up 2 , 3 and if possible 4 to come out of the curve equal with the field . Stagger focus is applied by all except 9 who is basically running in the blind because he/she has no idea where the rest of the field is until it's to late ( a strong curve runner can equalize and come out of the curve leading but he/she has to hold it to the line) . As far is easing up the last 200m there could be a number of reasons from a twink in her leg 🦵 or just placing in the top 2 or 3 and move on to the finals. The key is she made it and that's what counts. Also those of us that have ran , we all know that you have to run and lean through the tape even if no one is near you 😆 that's sprinters training 101 😆 . You just have to ask her when you see her . I wouldn't do it (unless I felt something wrong) which could have been the case . But that's me . She will be Okay.

I thought it was random lane draws events with multiple heats—from the college level all the way to the Olympics or Worlds the people who run faster times in earlier heats are assigned to middle lanes in later heats. In other words, the fastest runners are rewarded with what are, supposedly, better lane assignment .

Yes I know of that in early heats its a random lane drawn but in the semi and finals it's based off time she will need to not "ease up" as much today in the semis because she is in lane 8
