Davis gets scholarship to NC A&T

NEWTOWN - Tia Davis, a senior at Council Rock-North has accepted a swimming scholarship to Division I North Carolina A&T State University.
Davis chose NC A&T, a member of the Northeast Conference, over Greensboro College and Howard for swimming and Morgan State and North Carolina Central for cross country.
She will swim distance freestyle and individual medley events and plans to major in television production with an eye toward becoming a director.
"This was my first choice," Davis said. "They were strong in my major and they also had a swim team."
The Lady Aggies went 4-3 overall last season and 1-3 in dual meets. They have never participated in the Northeast Conference championships or the NCAA championships.
"I'm going to try to make an impact right away," Davis said. "When I went on my recruiting trip, the coach [Shawn Hendrix] told me I was their No. 1 recruit, so I really want to try to stand out the first year."
She ran on the cross-country team this season for the first time, but had to pass up going to the state championship because her recruiting trip to NCA&T was the same weekend.
"It was so hard to pass up going to states," she said. "But at that time, I didn't know if they were going to offer me a scholarship and I really wanted to go there, so even though it was my one chance to go to states, I knew I had to go to the recruiting trip. "
She swam for the CR-North high school team for two years but is not presently on the team.
"It's hard to do that, plus swim with a club, and keep up with schoolwork," she said.
Davis trains with the Tri-Hampton YMCA team.
