Three's the Charm for N. Carolina A&T
By Sean P. Flynn Special to The Washington Post Sunday, December 19, 2004; Page PW09
Potomac senior Kharya Brown was looking for a good place to go to college and she found it, a place with a good track team and coach, good academics and a nice, small campus. Fallon Hutcherson found the school she wanted, with a good track team and a strong engineering program. After long thought, Candace Robinson's choice for college ended up being the one where she would be close to much of her family.
On signing day in November, it happened that all three girls, seniors at Potomac and standout sprinters on the Panthers' track and field team, had stumbled upon the same school -- North Carolina A&T. In a joint signing ceremony, the three signed letters-of-intent to compete for the Greensboro college.
"We all had different reasons for going," Brown said. "It just happened that we all decided to go to the same place."
It won't be the first time the trio has ended up in the same place. Only Robinson started her career at Potomac; Brown began at Gar-Field, and Hutcherson started at North Stafford. But the three have run together in AAU throughout high school and were together in high school by last spring.
