Kyle Duke entered the portal. Other than Crews, I believe all transfers have been out-of-staters. We will need to address this because it doesn't look good from a recruiting marketing perspective. I suspect most basketball players are attending A&T (other colleges are going through the same thing) primarily for playing opportunities rather than academia or tradition. The new coach will have to figure out how to recruit and hold on to talented players better than ever before. Some say target in-state players only/more while others say target players that truly want to be at A&T. How do you do that? What do we consider only high academic players, legacy student-athletes, etc? The way we financially support and build the MBB program over the next few years will define whether we will remain a middle to slightly upper tier CAA MBB team versus a consistent threat in winning a CAA championship each year. Since the new coach may have as many as 8 available scholarships to offer, let's wait and see how effectively he uses them in signing his 1st recruiting class. I do wish we had hired the new coach earlier to give him and his staff a better start on recruiting.

A&T website roster said Buford, Ga. He’s from Winston, moved to GA in high school. They put the town of his high school. School athletics websites are inaccurate w/ hometowns from from time to time (i.e Kam Langley being on the roster for 5 years as a Greensboro native when he’s from High Point).

His spot on the roster may not "secure" under this new coach. So it's 50/50 either way. I would say less than 50-50, if I'm taking that he couldn't get much play on our roster as being legitimate...probably more like 70-30. Definitely less, he was a 3 year walk-on. A D1 walk-on transferring to a competitive D2 conference is very par for the course. Same thing w/ Darus Maddox, walked on for us & obviously wasn’t ever gonna play, then transferred D2 to LStone & shined

Then Watson would be considered an out-of-stater according to our Admission Office. Now if he attended a high school like Montverde or Oak Hill and his family still lived in his home state, then colleges and organizations like McDonald's All-American would list their home state instead of Florida or Maryland respectively. A&T's website is accurate in my opinion on his home state. I am pretty confident that none of his previous colleges stated his home state was NC. They typically use high school location except for the above example I gave for these sports academies.

Portal or not, current HS 4-star swing guard Marquavious Brown is still on to sign his national letter of intent with us on Friday. Obviously Coach Ross wasted little time in reaching out and reaffirming the 6-4 Brown's commitment to the program.
