Powell, Johnson, and Filmore took 7 out the 57 team total shots. In the last 3 games, this has been the trend. The G/Fs take about 50 more shot attempts then the big mens combined. That’s because they can’t score. They were fed in the low post and miss from 2 ft from the basket. That can't be accurate description of what happened. How do you know they had trouble scoring if they had so few shot attempts? Powell was 2-3 in FG. He can't score because he missed 1 shot. Powell scored 1 less point than Kam who went 4-14. Filmore was 0-1 in FG. He can't score because he missed his only shot attempt. Johnson was 0-3 in FG. So if you miss 3 shots in a game you can't score. Kam and Watson (4-15 FG) missed more than 3 shots. Lastly, passing the ball to the low post players may draw enough attention from your opponents that it opens up less difficult shots for your main scorers/shooters. Team assists may go up as well.[/quote] its accurate. they would be fed in the low post. and be one on one on a couple of feet from the basket. they would miss badly. not just yesterday but in past games. so the guards are hesitant to pass them the ball. powell is guarded by double teams so that its difficult to feed him the ball. the other teams know he is more of a threat. but the other guys cannot finish consistenly at the rim.

Coach bringing Powell off the bench is a failed experiment, he needs to start!!!! If we lose Powell it will be because coach has him on the bench when he is a better player than those starting. yes i kind of agree. he should start and play more minutes. when those threes arent falling he is the guy that can get it done down low. the guys that close the game out last night should be the starters Woods Horton Bettis Powell Watson

Secondly, thanks for additional clarity of your initial post. I still believe the bigs should be targeted more for a better balance offensive attack or strategy to increase the team's chances of winning.

That was what I posted when he benched Powell after starting him 1 game after he had just scored 20 points. He did not give him or the starters enough games to adjust to each other, but I also tried to give the coach benefit of the doubt that he kept Powell on the bench for increased bench scoring until they started losing more games. I never thought about Powell leaving, since coach said Powell preferred to watch the action first before getting into the game. But if he is thinking about transfer portal, I hope we hire a new coach after the season that would impress upon him the value of staying with the MBB program & A&T.

I went back and read A&T-roy's post on January 13th which is reposted below. -------------- A&T-roy said: Here's what Coach Shumpert said about Powell: "He's good coming off the bench and seeing the action first instead of starting," said Shumpert after he started Powell against UNCW on Saturday. "When I talked to him about not starting tonight, one of the first things he said was, 'anything to help the team win.' He's a team guy, and I'm proud of the maturity he has shown throughout the season."

Since the re-bench decision by Coach Shumpert of Powell, we have 5 wins and 3 losses. Could we have won more if Powell had started all 8 games? Who knows for sure, but his contributions were diminished after being on a roll before the benching.

We can tie Drexel this Saturday for 5th in the CAA if we win our game against Stony Brook and Drexel loses its game against Towson. On paper, A&T and Towson are the favorites.
