Looks like we've got another opening to fill...Coach Gallon left to go to Jackson State as their running backs coach. He did a good job with our Tight Ends last year and was a very solid recruiter. Best of luck to him.

I'd love to see Tony come home too! He's got the credentials and the Aggie Pride!

No disrespect to Gallon, but this is an opportunity to improve the staff. We’ve got enough former players or coaches with roots in NC, to fill this position.
Offer McRae more than whatever he’s making at Central or see if Tarik is ready to transition from his NFL dream to coaching.

I expect Coach B won't believe McRae has enough experience yet.
And he has NO allegiance to him.

So, if you want to grow in the profession, you are better off coaching all positions.

We don't have the luxury to experiment and rearrange the staff to fit someone in. Let's keep things simple. Hire a rb coach with proven success coaching that position group.

The new OC might have someone he's worked with already. That could potentially be a good move.

What month does football coaches contract begin? Trying to understand how difficult will it be to hire new coaches at this point in the school year. Have most assistant coaches signed their one year or multi-year contracts?

Most all assistants are on a year-to-year contract basis at the discretion of the head coach. Thus the evaluation process immediately at the end of each season. You are either renewed or let go (i.e Chris Young).
There's no specific time line to hire other than the 30-day public listing notification of an opening that is required by state law.
After that period is over, there is the usual generally accepted 3-candidate minimum interview process (unless it is an internal listing).
With spring practice starting next week, don't expect to hear of a replacement for Gallon until mid to late April.

My questions are for how all football schools hire assistant coaches. If these coaches are locked into their new contract by January or February, then it may be very difficult to hire "good" coaches after that period due to the smaller pool of free coaches available unless you are good at recruiting coaches away from other schools or the "school or program alone" is more attractive to the coach.
