I was just thinking today that many of the best players to ever put on an Aggie uniform were from the state of New York. I hope that playing the northern CAA schools and increased recruiting budgets will somehow energize our connections to the New York area again.

back in the day, coach corbett was notorious for bringing in new york ballers to a&t. you're right, some of the best aggie ballers in history came from the state of new york, including james "the bird" sparrow.
however, i think coach corbett's recruiting success in new york had more to do with his own personal contacts rather than our team playing games and having exposure in the new york area. most coaches like to concentrate on areas where they have numerous contacts, that's how you find "sleepers" like norfolk's kyle o'quinn who hardly nobody else recruited him out of high school, but he wound up getting drafted by the nba and played for several nba teams.
i remember eaves concentrating on his home state of kentucky for recruits. i mean, kentucky isn't really known for its homegrown basketball talent but he did bring thomas coleman to a&t from kentucky if my memory serves me correctly. other than coleman, the rest of his kentucky recruits were "marginal" at best...

A&T Coaches have had a long tradition of recruiting out of New York and Philly. Cal Irvin A&T's head basketball coach for 18 years was the king of recruiting when it came to the Northeast. His record during that time showed he was good at it. 348 to 105! And he average 19 wins during that 18 year period at A&T!
