Disappointed in the attendance Saturday. Our track team is one of the best in the country but they don't get the support and love they deserve. Enjoyed seeing Coach Roy "Spaceman" Thompson's former track athletes in attendance and showing him love for all he did for them while they were student athletes. Coach Thompson coached 30 years at T and helped lay the foundation for our presently successful track program. Hell I was on campus Saturday for the BGMM Band Blowout in Corbett and had no idea our National ranked track team was competing down the street. I drove past Truist Stadium and saw all the cars and a few high school students but I thought they were having another high school track meets. I didn't learn about track meet until I saw pictures of Spaceman and some other alums on Facebook Sunday morning. Another crappy job by A&T to promote an important event!

Do you really expect 5K to show up for a track meet? Last time I saw a great crowd in NC was the pan African meet at Duke over 30 -40 years ago. Most people in the stands now are the track athletes and their families. Heck , the outdoor track stadiums at University of Sc and NC state and Duke will not hold 5K. Been a long time since I have been to UNC and Duke moved to a track only venue.

For a school our size we do have a "crappy" advertising campaign. With Sturgis, Belcher and White participating the stadium should have been packed.
Who is in charge of advertising and who is the person who suppose to do the advertising? Might need to make some changes there also.
Sturgis and White 100 was the highlight of the day. Sturgis reminds me of Tarik Cohen the way she runs.
Belcher turned it out also.
No publicity for our events is a disgrace.

Track isn't supposed like that as a sport. The track community was out there and that's what's important

Number one brave, I was not talking about Homecoming, WSSU or Central crowds but with the proper advertising of this event the crowd could have been much larger.
We do a poor job in this area and I don't understand why it has not been addressed or changes made.

Professor Truist Stadium capacity is 21,500. I don't know where you got your figures from.
I have been to track meets in various locations including the Penn Relays in Philly. I understand the culture of the fans attending depending on the classification of the meet.
I was just pointing out about the Aggie meet this past Saturday was disappointing. Someone else brought up the attention about poor notification or advertising of this event.

Appreciate your effort A-Roy but how many people see your post? The general public does not see it and most students don't either.
A&T just have to get the word out better in all sports.

I was not talking about a HOMECOMING size or or any football game size crowd Fans don't show up at any of the track venues I have attended. .. 2 K would be great. It also doesn't help that that most of the schools there are D2 because WCU-APP State type schools stay away and the power schools don't send A list runners ... Just like we do HP Waiting to see what attendance will be at BS Championship compared to previous MEAC Championships

#1brave, I understand what you are saying. I know from experience that it would not be a football crowd. I have attended numerous track meets and I have seen crowds that were pretty good in Aggie Stadium when they had the NB high school national meets there.
The largest track crowds that I have seen personally were at the Penn Relays approximately 50 to 60 thousands.
You right 3 to 5 thousand is a good crowd for most meets. However, we will most unlikely see that in Truist Stadium because of poor publicity.

I agree the NB MEETS ARE GREAT . But they are made up of family not people showing up to watch track. At Penn the times I attended, the crowded seem to be a celebration of teams from Jamaica , Bahamas, etc . There would be no such following here. I guess where we disagree is whether publicly would increase attendance enough to matter. I just don't think so. Hope I am wrong

I do them here and in the 7 A&T groups I'm in on Bookface...primarily alumni. One has 10k+ members and others have several thousand. I also expect there's a lot of overlap.

It's a shame that alums have to take responsibility for promoting A&T events. I'll have to read your weekly list of events more closely now.

There should have been a High School division along g with an development division for high school talent that are running Gold and Sliver standard times and let them run against the pro's if they choose to . You bring in the High Schoolers you bring in the crowds. You bring in some of the best High School talent from DC , Maryland ,Virginia, North and South Carolina and Georgia a long with the Pro's you will have over 5K and it will also benefit the local economy. Things like this most be started at least 2 to 3 years out so not to interfere with HS ,College and pro scheduling .

wow, how times have changed! nowadays with the availability of smart phones and the internet, today's college students have far more options for socializing than back when i was an undergrad.
i remember running at the scsu relays back in the day (late 70's) before they removed the track from dawson stadium and you would've thought there was a football game going on relative to attendance. not so much on the visitor's side, but on the home side i would estimate that there were approximately 8k to 9k in attendance for that meet.
i particularly remember competing in the long jump at the same time the 400m race was taking place. there used to be some bleachers behind the goal posts in the endzone that blocked the view of the home stands when the 400m runners ran the curve.
as they ran the curve, i was just about to sprint towards the pit for my long jump. but because folks couldn't see the 400m runners behind the bleachers where the jumping pit was, folks thought i was in the race because the straight away to the pit was on the opposite side of the bleachers in parallel with the track.
so of course i was running full speed to the pit, so as the 400m runners came around the curve, i sprinted pass all of them from the rear of the pack and the home stand went crazy cuz they thought i was in the race. they thought i had sprinted from the rear of the pack to pass everybody until they saw me jump into the pit.
lol, that's why i keenly remember there were a ton of folks at that track meet because of the roar of the crowd when they thought i sped pass everybody in the race...
