No, we are R2 and we are a ways from being an R1. We need several more PhD programs and $50 million+ more in research funding to get to R1. Hold up I knew Dr. Ron McNair personally, a fine example of an Aggie; Humble, Reverent, Quiet Demeanor, as we say in the country a heavy or full wagon Word was word. But then it baffles me that all that has been accomplished ;we still got to go before the committee to explain; no no we are due our glory which has been earned. Now I understand the push back the 9/11 thing; but hey much more damage has been done by those on wall street/dry bones in the valley. We are being played and the clowns have already left the stage. I think people are overlooking one thing when it comes to those PHD programs, and that is the graduation rate of these candidates . It's not some much the number that you have but it is the number that are graduating . So the question I have is what is the qraduation rate of the one's entering versus the ones graduating at A&T. Most R1 or doctoral programs in-general have a graduation rate of 67% . What is A&T's . Is it below are above the national average. If it's blow then you have your answer. You can have all the Doctoral programs you want but if the graduation rates fron those programs are low your not going to get R1. Until you find away to get those candidates through the programs to graduation .

The number has been going up for the past 4 years.

The number has been going up for the past 4 years. My bad it a little lower then 67% After 10 years, cumulative PhD completion rates for men were 58 percent compared with 55 percent for women. The Council of Graduate Schools produced a study on the PhD completion and attrition. The study looked at 49,000 students attending 30 institutions in 54 disciplines comprising 330 programs. Astonishingly, the completion rate ten years after students begin their doctoral program remains low at 56.6%. What does this mean? Well, first it means that after years graduate study, and thousands of dollars spent working towards your doctoral degree, 43.4% of students will not complete their program. Think about that: almost half of all students don’t graduate. in the humanitie

I went to the Inaugural College of Engineering Donor Event on Thursday. Chancellor Martin talked about R1 and the new requirements that starts in 2025. He said we were 2 million dollars short on Research Expenditures and 2 Ph.D graduates short as well. You need 50 million and 70 Graduates yearly respectively.
