Didn't Carter used to hold during his career? Why not have the backup QB hold permanently because they are more accustomed to handling and receiving the ball? It also gives you the ability to run fakes with a qualified ball handler if/when it’s needed without raising suspicion.

Our current kicking coach likes having the punters and long snappers do the holding now because they are around the placekickers more in practice.

I figure a punter should have good hands anyway. Maybe not for holding low-snapped balls for kicks, but definitely for handling snaps on punts.

I totally understand the kicking coach wants these guys together. At the end of the day the job is not getting done and it needs to be changed. Maybe let both guys practice holding the balls for the kicks. Then make a decision from that point with the coaches and players. I cannot understand how it turned so bad so quick.

They've had bad weather games for a while now?

Coach even indicated at an earlier press conference the difference in hand placement for receiving snap for punts and FG attempts.
There is a difference and that could be a factor in the success of our field goal unit.
Something else to pay special attention to during evaluations this off-season.

lol. Why do you have to wait for the offseason to fix something that simple?

Traditionally it has been either been the starting quarterback or one of his backups doing all the holding for the last 10 years. For whatever reason, we switched up this season. If you were at the game in person seeing it from the angle that I did, you could clearly see the problem was the catch and hold on the second FG and second PAT.

I suggested on social media that they start having the backup quarterback hold on FGs and extra points, but they seem pretty adamant about allowing the punter to have the role. My guess is because the punters and placekickers are around each other the majority of time at practice and thus can get more reps in. But it is pretty obvious that Rivers does not have the best hands on the team. I agree with you. But if is not working then we need to make a change. I understand we only have one game left but it might come down to a FG or extra point for the final win. I would love to see the seniors go out with a win Saturday. Aggie30, Welcome to the Board!

That catch , place and Spin could be hard for the punter . Punter catch is hands and palms up and can spin the ball into position with the laces up if need be .
Holders hands catches with his palms out like a receiver , so I can see the ( Rivers) holder getting confused in the heat of a game . A lot of people think that a holders job is simple and easy trust me that catch place and spinning of the laces away from the kicker ( if you have to ) is not easy and simple .

Petey Bush took over for Carter on the 48 yard fg to beat Elon... He held the rest of the season

I will say this after Saturdays game...if our team can beat the 2 best teams in the MEAC then, we have to give credit to the Big South as conference. SC State makes the Celebration Bowl with possibly a losing record. I wonder what that will do for the Celebration Bowl ratings. We all know that Jackson State will beat the snot out of SC State. But, back to us, I'm proud they played 4 quarters and pulled out a victory in South Carolina. ya'll trippin'. the meac ain't what it used to be. so when you say "beat the 2 best teams in the MEAC", you're talkin' bout a "watered down" meac. so the bsc don't deserve no doggone credit! a&t ain't in the meac no more, famu ain't in the meac no more, hampton ain't in the meac no more, and bcu ain't in the meac no more. quite frankly, famu is just as good if not better than hampton and a&t, but they're no longer in the meac. famu could beat every team hampton and a&t has beat in the bsc. so give me a break with this "our team can beat the 2 best teams in the MEAC" crap!! our team can't even beat morgan state!! the meac is "watered down", so its unfair to compare the current meac to the meac that existed before hampton, a&t, famu, and bcu left. if hampton, a&t, famu, and bcu were still in the meac, the meac would be a "stronger" conference than the bsc...

So, if we played every team in D1 Black College Football a mix of home and away games over that next two seasons, what would our record be? Not even thinking about it hard, we go 16-4.
