Ill keep this brief. So I’ve been looking at fellow hbcu’s and I can’t help but notice how hard we lack in our sports media. Everything from videos to even just regular post seem to be very basic compared to other schools. Being a member of the current generation that attends or want to attend this school we should probably step it up. That plays a huge roll in recruiting trust me the kids pay attention to that. I would like to know y’all opinion on this subject and I hope I don’t wake a sleeping bear with this thread.😂

The best thing we can do is donate to improve in this area.

Couple of things:
A few months ago our local newspaper was gutted and two of the main guys who normally wrote about A&T sports (Jeff Mills and Ed Hardin) were laid off. Now they have one guy who previously focused solely on HS athletics doing pretty much everything. We dont have a dedicated A&T beat writer anymore.
That move was probably triggered by the pandemic and the huge revenue losses that occurred when all local sports were cancelled this past fall.
Likewise, I can't imagine A&T having a ton of money laying around to pay people to cover and promote sports that are currently not being played. Every local media entity that I know of has had to cut back in some form.
I believe our athletic social media accounts were all managed by students who have since graduated. That is why our online social media engagements have dropped off so much.
Brian Holloway and the SID staff do consistently good work, but I'm sure their budget is strapped also. Plus it is difficult to develop a comprehensive sports media strategy when you dont know what sports will actually be played and, really, if you personally will even have a job in a few months.
To make a long story short, everybody at A&T is basically in a holding pattern trying to figure out what the next few months will look like.
I will say that the athletic department zoom videos have been a nice touch. They just need to find a way to promote those better. Not a lot of people I talk to are even aware of them.

I think this is a very fair take.

I’m not to sure of A&Ts budget and what money they have laying around but what made me want to start this thread is me seeing smaller schools, with less look like they have a lot if that makes sense. One school in particular I’ve been keeping my eye on before the hype is JSU and I will say they have a great social media presence, it’s like they got Steven Spielberg on campus with the type of content I’m seeing from them. Kids are mostly only paying attention to social media I.e twitter, instagram when it comes to school athletics at the least. The majority aren’t interested in any other forums of media enough for them to have any type of presence i.e newspaper, or even zoom video conferences. I don’t want to offend anyone by saying this but that’s things the older generation enjoys, attention spans are way to short now a days to be interested in any of that. And as far as the not having sports to follow isn’t necessarily true people would love to see the behind the scenes aspect of things not just who we playing and who we played.

I don't know if A&T has the type of media capabilities in place that you are suggesting and we all know that the relationship between A&T and the Greensboro news media as always been tentative at best LOL. As far as " waking a sleeping bear " we have had this conversation numerous times LOL numerous.

We lacked in the past, but our media and social media was very good prior to Covid. Better than most schools at the FCS level.

I wont say it was better, but it was pretty comparable.
However, when the Stovetop boys left, our social media output fell off a cliff.

BTW: They can get a lot more mileage out of those zoom videos than what they are currently getting. Just follow the VladTV model and cut up the interesting soundbites into a bunch of mini clips.
Then you will have fresh content to feed your social media audience for weeks at at time .... from the same video.

We have a great video crew working on campus...the BGMM Video team. For years they have produced some terrific video for social media. They have the equipment, talent and experience...all they need is some funding.

I know the athletic department can find some wiggle room for a small media team.

I believe JSU hype and social media has picked up more since having coach Prime. They have the backing of his influences and resources to help. The content JSU is putting out is really eye opening from the practice videos to the tiger talk podcast. A&T has some good things as well for the budget and manpower we have. I enjoy the Aggie Pridecast interviews and sports update. I am happy they have gotten to a point it’s on other platforms. Zia, I would suggest reaching out to Brian Holloway or Carl Hairston to give suggestions, feedback and to find out info. They are approachable and responsive and if you don’t mind keeping us informed on what was discussed. This is a good topic and worth a continued discussion.

I wont say it was better, but it was pretty comparable. However, when the Stovetop boys left, our social media output fell off a cliff. When you are comparable to the top, that makes you better than most. Remember how we all used to complain about how NCCU was killing us on the media front about 5-6 years ago(i think). Some where in there A&T stepped it's game up as a whole. Not just in athletics, but overall. You can always look to get better, but pre-covid we were OK. No one was complaining about this topic.
