With KSU and Northern Alabama leaving this year, the OOC slots have just expanded.

They are both leaving immediately? CENTRAL ARKANSAS, OTHERS TO JOIN ASUN CONFERENCE Posted by Jon Manson | Jan 15, 2021 The University of Central Arkansas will move from the Southland Conference to the ASUN Conference, UCA athletic director Brad Teague confirmed through several news outlets on Thursday. Central Arkansas will join the ASUN for all sports beginning with the fall 2021 sports season. This news comes on the heels of four other Southland schools leaving the conference for the Western Athletic Conference to start up a new FCS football league as Stephen F. Austin, Sam Houston State, Lamar, and Abilene Christian will make that move. With Central Arkansas joining the league, the ASUN will also look to create a new football conference. North Alabama and Kennesaw State already are football playing members of the ASUN that compete in the FCS. Central Arkansas will join them as will three other football playing schools, Teague stated. Jacksonville State and Eastern Kentucky have been two that have been rumored to join Central Arkansas in the ASUN as soon as next season. Teague discussed on the Up Tempo radio show that this new football league could look to make a move to the FBS in the future. Of course, Liberty plays in the ASUN for all sports other than football which competes at the FBS level as an Independent.

linkMcFeely blog: Central Arkansas joins new Atlantic Sun football conference, hopes to be FBS soon Future Bison opponent bolts Southland Conference like other schools, but heads east instead of west Written By: Mike McFeely | Jan 15th 2021 - 10am. CONWAY, Ark. — Central Arkansas has big plans for its football program and other current Football Championship Subdivision schools will join them. The Bears, who were North Dakota State's only game last fall and are on future Bison schedules, will leave the Southland Conference to form the new Atlantic Sun Conference in football for the 2021 season. NDSU is scheduled to play Central Arkansas at the Fargodome in 2023 and in Conway, Ark., in 2025. Central Arkansas, and perhaps other schools in the A-Sun, hopes to make the jump to the higher Football Bowl Subdivision in the next few years. The news, rumored for weeks, was confirmed by various news outlets Thursday, Jan. 14. On the Up Tempo video podcast, Central Arkansas athletic director Brad Teague said six schools will make up the initial A-Sun league with the possibility of more joining. He said Central Arkansas along with Kennesaw State and North Alabama of the Big South are three of the teams joining the A-Sun. Teague declined to name the other three schools, but it's believed Jacksonville State and Eastern Kentucky of the Ohio Valley Conference are two of them. "It's all public schools, it's all big brands," Teague told Up Tempo. "We're all pretty strong football teams. We're pretty excited about it." Teague also said Central Arkansas intends to move to FBS in "2-3 years," and that perhaps the entire league might do the same. If only some schools in the A-Sun want to move up, Teague said the Bears and other schools would play as FBS independents. "We're hopeful we'll take the whole Atlantic Sun six to FBS and then Liberty would join us," Teague said. "A number of us could do it and go independent and we'd have each other to play, so it's not like we'd be without schedules and it would be cumbersome

Welp. This is interesting and expected, particularly with UNA and KSU. Makes sense for Jacksonville State with those two joining. Still don’t understand why EKU would make this move.

I wonder if we are going to be able to schedule another game in 2021, since Charleston Southern becomes a conference opponent. For the 2024 out of conference schedule the furtherest we travel is to Central. Well it looks like our 2021 game posted on FBSchedules.com versus Charleston Southern at home on 09/11/2021 will now be an away game at Duke per today's ACC football schedule release. As it currently stands, we are at Furman on 09/04, at Duke on 09/11 and home versus the Buzzards on 09/25. goduke.com/news/2021/1/27/2021-football-schedule-announced.aspx

It says playing in Spring 2021 further down on the schedule? Beside each opponent, it list their 2020 W-L record. So, yes, beside our name it correctly says 'playing in Spring 2021'.

From what I am hearing, we are slated to play seven (7) Big South games in the fall of 2021. I suspect the reason is that Robert Morris Univ. was a late conference addition and the existing Big South members likely had obligations to play OOC games based on the number of Big South member schools prior to the addition of RMU.
