I was perusing Wikipedia during lunch and saw this: en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Robert_Jackson_(American_football_coach)The article goes on to state he spent most of his career coaching at that "school" up 85, but we'll forgive him for that. If it's true that he was the first hbcu alum to be drafted by an NFL team, that's a legacy we should celebrate. Of course for all I know we already have and I'm just late to the party. Aggierattler, I know you know. I'm betting a few others might too. What can y'all tell us about this great Aggie?

I’ve seen him featured in a couple of 1940s Ayantee yearbooks, but no huge write-ups on him. Seems like I’ve seen a picture of him at an event on campus from the late 1960s when my old man was AD, too. When I finish working on my Coach Bell project, I might focus on researching info on him.

Wait, wait, wait, wait, WAIT!! Wait a damn minute.....you telling me A&T had the FIRST NFL player EVER drafted from an HBCU in the NFL?? Lawd I swear we do a HORRIBLE job at publicizing and celebrating our own history. I'm almost positive that 98% of our alumni don't know this. But if he had gone to Grambling, FAMU, or Jackson State he would be a household name.

Everybody should know Coach Jack. He is perhaps best known at NCCU by their players and alumni in the 70’s and 80’s. I was ball boy at Central and got to spend time around him. He was a mans man and tough! I did not know he was an Aggie until I was looking around the 6th floor archives in Bluford in the late 80’s. A legend in Durham and at Central.

www.roberthjackson.memory-of.com/About.aspxRead the tributes in addition to the obituary. HIGHLY respected man. Even though most of his work was done at that "school" up 85, seems like we should have something on campus named after him. If that "school" up 85 can honor OUR coach Bill Hayes, we can do the same for Stonewall and probably should have eons ago.

DOOMS-- That photo album in the obituary brought back a little bit more of my remembrance of him. When I get back to the house, I will see what else I have on him. I believe that I have an old football game program from when he was being inducted into the Aggie Sports Hall of Fame.
As I (and others) have said, we have got to do a better job promoting our history...especially in athletics! And in reading the obit, it's a damn shame that we don't have anything named after him in Aggie Athletics. (The same holds true for Coach/AD Dr. William Bell.) Looooonnnnggggg overdue.

Also, their annual golf fundraiser is named after him. See how they fail to mention his alma mater. Robert "Stonewall" Jackson Legacy Golf Classic

I agree with aggiepower1990. Everybody who lived in Durham and went to NCCU Summer Camp know about Coach Jackson and how he doesn't play. I think when he stuttered while he talk he scared players, students, and everyone else. I heard back in the day when he played he would put you out. As an assistant coach he didn't like A&T but I wonder if some of the NCCU players didn't like him either because he could be tough as nail. I seen him made players cry but off the field he had a big heart and love kids young and old. When my dad told me that he went to A&T I was just floored

We just don't value history. There should be a 15 foot statute of him in front of Aggie Stadium!

There was a push for coach Jackson back in the late 70's to be honored but it was kicked down by the administration at that time . My bad Thanks Thriller LOL

Bro, please tell me you are typing via your phone.
There is no way you can really think "current administration" should be spelled "curve ministration". That is an all-time classic. lol
