I worry about the new SWAC. While we play unc Asheville and high point the Mecca of black colleges are all in one conference. The exposure of a bayou classic, possible playoff berth, and ESPN SWAC championship games may supercede Big South TV. There is a big push like we never seem to get talent to go to hbcus. Will they choose us playing Gardner Webb and Monmouth who combined may have 2500 people at the game or will they choose the FAMU/Bethune Southern/Grambling on ESPN in front of 25k. You know the same reasons why we propelled our program and our school.
SWAC might be the winner..if the SWAC is able to condense the season into sections (6) on each side, and negotiate bayou classic to not interfere with playoffs we are in big trouble. We’ll see if they figure it out. I’m somewhat worried tbh.
There is a new climate today. These kids are not from our world. They don’t necessarily believe you need white people to accomplish anything. It will be interesting to see.

I agree the SWAC came out looking real good here. But the SWAC would never be an option for us. With those 2 FL schools gone the MEAC with Hampton and us back in it wouldn't seem so bad. With different leadership of course.

I think the new SWAC will be great for Black College Football. The question is will FAMU and Bethune raise not just the attendance but the quality of play. The future lies in the ability to create television viewership in addition to butts in the seats. Currently, a SWAC football game is hard to watch on TV for the casual fan because the play is so error-filled. That may be fine if you're at the game enjoying all the other scenery but it doesn't play well on TV. I hope the SWAC does well.
On the other hand, I think that basketball is an unknown and baseball will get better in the SWAC. For us, I think our path will be different. I truly believe we have ability to take the App State/Ga Southern path to FBS in less than 8 years and our brand will do better when we get there. I also think basketball will surprise people and we will again become a national "basketball school" in both men's and women's BB. Baseball and volleyball will get way better playing in the Big South.
It was definitely the best move FAMU ever made. It will pay huge dividends for them in football. A&T will be fine also.

I believe with the addition of FAMU and Cookman and our exit from the MEAC, the SWAC is the hottest FCS conference. The atmosphere at their games are going to be electric. Unfortunately the Big South may have been the best move for us but game day experience is going to be a snoozer!

One thing you will never have to worry about is the SWAC trying to adjust their conference schedule so that they can fit in the FCS playoffs which they could careless about . I would not be surprised to see the SWAC as a conference make a move to the FBS .

I would not be surprised to see the SWAC as a conference make a move to the FBS . It all depends on FAMU. They will try to pull the rest and that will be difficult. Why hasn't Alabama State moved closer to being ready over the last ten years? Southern, JSU and Grambling are stuck in the 70's. PVAM is all dressed up with nowhere to go. We see what Alcorn is.

You fail to see the point . The SWAC unlike the MEAC functions as one conference but you are looking at the SWAC through the lenses of the MEAC and it's incompetent leadership and structure from the top down . Like it or not the SWAC has always had a vision that was fanbase and conference friendly that works for them and they like it that way and so do their fanbase, donors and institutions .

I'm just saying that mindset is good and creates a cohesive SWAC, but it doesn't necessarily support a collective move to FBS as a conference.

With different leadership of course. Yea but that still does not answer the ranking issue. The meac has always been ranked lower than most of the PWI conf. I remember Martin said a quote 10 years. He did not want to be the best HBCU college but the best College in the United States. I know some of you look at this as a sale out but if you want to achieve true national attention sometime you have to leave your on people and step out of the box. If we stayed in the MEAC we would continue just another HBCU that is winning games. If we start winning championship games in Big South we will be view as a very Good College football program. If we want to ever have a chance to move up to FBS there is no way you can jump from the MEAC to FBS. You have to go CAA or big south first and prove you are successful there then maybe take a look at FBS.

It is a way but it was not the only way. I am not against the move in theory but there is no evidence to say we could not have done the same thing in the MEAC. Those schools made it out the big south because they had an alumni and program that was already predetermined to do that. So they went to the worst conference they could find. Is that a model? I am worried that the athletes that chose our school or choosing hbcus and there will be more- will like their atmosphere better than ours. And realize what we say everyday “it doesn’t matter where you go if you are good they will find you” I Well I can tell you right now there is a reason the big south has never ever had a game broadcast on ESPN and adding Robert Morris is not going to help that. I am worried we lose the exposure argument. Our players will not get the national exposure the SWAC will get and that just pure arithmetic. Ijs L

Ijs L Schools have to get invited into an FBS conference and those conferences, being successful in the MEAC is being comparable to being the tallest midget. If we are successful in a conference that actually plays football at a high level we will get a FBS conf invite just like Coastal Carolina. Playing in the MEAC isnt going to help us...it hurts us.

I guess - all I know this year the MEAC has two teams in the top 25 and big south has 1 consistently overrated Kennesaw St. Which if I was a betting man 99% of the country has never even heard of this school.
I do get the psychy- and I don’t disagree with it. But that was yesterday’s world. We will see how it pans out with these new unapologetically black kids coming out now. Hopefully they will add NCCU and Norfolk. 4 hbcu schools in the Big South will do wonders for that conference.
