T&D ArticleWhy would they remain D1 vs going D2? I do not understand the logic. Article was from Dec 2019 Clark said Stacy Sowell, the university’ director of admissions and enrollment, and her staff have done a good job of “getting and processing decisions, making decisions one way or another no matter what the decision is. And of those that have been admitted, (they’re) making sure that we get that information processed quickly.” According to preliminary figures, spring 2020 enrollment stands at 946 (808 undergraduates and 138 graduates) compared to a spring 2019 enrollment of 1,069 (899 undergrads and 170 grads). “That 946 looks like it is lower, but we actually had a lower fall class to move forward. So actually this spring number is running percentage wise higher than based on what we would have expected from the class. It's not so much higher that we're gonna jump and celebrate, but it is right in line with our projections that we’ve done,” Clark said. The university has a fall 2019 enrollment of 2,479 compared to 3,022 in fall 2018, with fewer returning undergrad students because of tighter financial controls.

No matter what the numbers are, SC State still has some serious issues and this coronavirus crisis isn't going to help them. But like us, those SC State alums are proud and will fight hard to stay DI. Unfortunately, if they have too many more setbacks, I don't think they can survive at this level. What's so interesting is right next door, Claflin University has grown to over 1,900 students.

Claflin's growth and SCSU decline can be summed up in one word -- leadership.

Buddy Pugh is remarkable...fielding teams in a Univ that small, and sending guys to the league...Remarkable. Some High School Graduating classes are larger.
As for the only Public HBCU is SC, I don't understand it...

As for the only Public HBCU is SC, I don't understand it... An HBCU in a state with an extremely racist Legislature, docile alums and an incompetent and sometimes corrupt leadership! That's a formula for failure.

And just wait and see what pitfalls they will have when Congressman Jim Clyburn is out of the picture. He's no spring chicken...he's approaching winter.
