#10 Kylil Carter (QB)
What we will miss?
Coming off one hell of a Celebration Bowl performance that finished off his Senior season, we now find ourselves looking to replace the most important position in Football. We all know of his ability to run the ball, compiling 578 yards on the ground in the regular season, but he was efficient throwing the ball and protected it very well throwing only 3 interceptions. The coaching staff did a great job of playing to his strengths and getting the most out of him this year. At times he was frustrating to watch, but he blew away any expectations in the 2019 Celebration Bowl.
How will we replace him?
Right now, we have two options: Kingsley Ifedi and Jalen Fowler.
Kingsley Ifedi has been used primarily in clean up duty as a runner. Having only attempted 3 passes, one of which was an interception, I am not comfortable turning over the keys to this Ferrari to him until I see a larger sample size in the passing game.
Jalen Fowler, however, has appeared in several games that mattered. One game in particular, the BCU game, Kalil Carter was struggling in the passing game. Fowler came in relief and provided a spark, completing 5-6 passes for 105 yards and 2 Touchdowns. While he is not built like Carter, he does have the ability to run and we did see the same QB draw plays being called for him. I like his ability to go through his reads and his quick decision making.
To me, Fowler should get the nod. When all else fails, just hand it off to Big Jah.
#13 Elijah Bell (WR)
What we will miss?
The best WR in A&T Football History. He leaves A&T as the Career Receiving yard leader, Touchdown Reception leader, and Career Receptions leader. All that is great, but what we will miss the most from Elijah was his ability to get the 50/50 ball. At 225 pounds, there aren’t many corners that want smoke with Bell making him darn-near unguardable. Yes, he did battle some drop issues but he almost certainly made up for them. Hopefully, he will get a shot at the next level.
How will we replace him?
Zacharie Leslie. At 6’3 and 4.4 speed, he is almost certain to have a breakout season with Bell vacating 53 receptions. Leslie averaged 15 yards per reception this season, showing off that big play ability. Go re-watch the FAMU game, where we had opportunity to see what life without Bell would look like.
Korey Banks and Quinzel Lockhart should also be mentioned here. They should see a bump in targets next season as well.
#73 Marcus Pettiford (LT)
What we will miss?
He is the only member of the offensive line not returning next year. His departure will leave a hole at Left Tackle, which is one of, if not the toughest position to play on the line.
How will we replace him?
Im no offensive line expert, but I would imagine that Donte Keys could potentially slide over to LT. You could also see rising (RS) SR Deven Melton or rising (RS) SO Rio Claytor move in at LT. Personally, Im a fan of experience at LT.
#46 William Simpson (FB)
What we will miss?
One of the more underrated losses as he provided much needed lead blocking for Jah-Maine Martin from the full back position. At 5’11 289, he could move bodies at will. Huge loss and he will be sorely missed in the run game.
How will we replace him?
As of right now, there are no Full Backs on the roster for 2020-2021.
#25 Kashon Baker (RB)
What we will miss?
His pre-snap stance, lol. Baker provided the change in the backfield. Extremely quick and explosive back that could also run between the tackles. Provided 470 rushing yards and 128 receiving yards on the season.
How will we replace him?
Mychale Salahuddin, the transfer from Pitt, should fit right in where Kashon left off. Mychale is deadly in open space and should pair nicely as a change of pace back next to Jah-Maine Martin. According to Salahuddin, the reason he transferred to an FCS school is the ability to play immediately. If he is 100% healthy, we could have the best backfield in FCS. No disrespect to Baker, but this an upgrade.
