I was impressed. Duke's defense was definitely faster than anyone else we will face. Their LBs were sprinting horizontally like FCS DBs. So it made his long run even that much more impressive. Once we hit conference we might see an offensive explosion.
1) Martin will get off 2) Offensive line will appear dominant 3) Bell will straight eat! 4) Double teaming Bell will be a mistake with Leslie roaming the field 5) Carter's running ability will be more of a factor(see below) 6) Mac will be back. (I know its not offense, but I'm excited)
On that same topic. Carter could not quite escape like he could do against FCS schools. Those designed QB runs were very ineffective against Duke, but I understand why we had to call them. Against FCS opponents they may very well work. I was also glad to see him get down sometimes.

Didn't Carter have two different runs of 20 or more yards?
Not much more you can ask from your QB against an FBS defense.

Yea but you have to couple that with Duke made some keyn stops in critical possession where we need a 1st down. That design run play was called on 1 down and 3rd down and Duke stopped it. It seem like when Harris decided to keep it and run it was more of what defense presented itself where for carter he does not look down field to see if anyone is open he just goes with it regardless.

Elon shut Martin down. But guess what? Elon held The Citadel to 156 yards rushing this past Saturday. The week before The Citadel rushed for 332 yards on Towson. Elon's run defense is probably as real as ours. O-line's probably the best-coached and most experienced part of the team right now. That's a given. Bell's gonna have to eat. He starved against Duke (granted, it was Duke) but dbs ain't gonna be scared of him again until he makes them scared of him again. I suspect that'll start this Saturday. Double-teaming Bell will be a mistake with a whole host of our receivers on the field. Thing is, will Carter start spreading the ball around? Carter's running ability is a back-breaker to defend. The real "return of the Mac!" I'd like to see Carter start buying some time and finding receivers rather than running. We've got the guys that can go get an off target pass for the most part. We also should ALWAYS have a safety valve for him to hit. BTW, Carter. ONE pick in over four years. INSANE! I guess that has to do with him not taking too many risky passes and running in the first place.

the thing i like most about martin's 66 yard td in the duke game is that he did it when duke's "starters" were in the game! so it wasn't against duke's 2nd, 3rd, or 4th string guys. hail nah! he out ran duke's starting lb's and db's, and that's impressive!
had it been their 2nd, 3rd, or 4th string guys, it would've took a little luster off of that run. but nah, this was against their starters "early" in the game when the game was still very competitive and the score was only 7-3. so his run was flatout "legit".
does anybody know what martin's 40 time is? i'm guessing "at the very least" it's at least 4.5 or better. probably in the 4.4 to 4.3 range...

But from the looks of it, he probably can sustain that 4.5 speed a whole lot longer than most people. Never seen him get caught from behind since he's been here.

I know he can take it to the house but what I want to see is can he handle the tough yards between the tackles and can he be effective in the passing game . Cartwright was not a Burner but he could be and everydown back if needed .

If I recall correctly, and I'm not trying to compare HS to FCS but in his HS highlight tape he was consistently breaking tackles and gaining tough extra yards

Martin is finding out that being the starter is a hold different ball game.g
