New Morgan State Coach Tyrone Wheatley Bullish On Bears By: Mike Ashley, August 15, 2019
New Morgan State football coach Tyrone Wheatley doesn't broach the subject of building a football team directly. The big-name rookie head coach talks more about building men than building, say, an offensive line. Excuse Wheatley, a former Michigan star and 10-year NFL running back with the New York Giants and Oakland Raiders, for painting in broad stokes while he rolls up his sleeves and works on the Bears, who went 4-7 last year. There's work to be done, but the Bears could be better than advertised. Morgan State knocked off then-fourth-ranked North Carolina A&T State last September to snap the Aggies' 15-game winning streak and had three losses by a total of eight points last year. With 17 starters back and a team talented enough to place nine players on the three-deep 2019 Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference preseason team, Wheatley has some options. But even with that talent, MEAC coaches and sports information directors tabbed the Bears to finish eighth in the league's preseason poll. "Job No. 1 is basically getting the young men in the program to understand and trust who I am in the process," Wheatley said of his first head coaching job. "Without trust nothing happens." 17 STARTERS BACK?!?
If the coaching staff has enough sense to follow last year's blueprint we might be in for it. I know the hurricane excuse and all, but they played straight exposed us at a large number of positions.

We exposed us not taking away from what Wheatly did but I am not worried as I dont think anyone in the MEAC will be able to score with us maybe Howard but Howard does not have a bad defense they practically dont have one at all.

This is Wheatley's first year. Ernest Jones was the coach that beat us last year. That's why I said if the coaching staff has enough sense to follow last year's blueprint. I should have said if the NEW coaching staff has enough sense to follow last season's blueprint.
But hell, they probably won't.

Takeaways from Morgan State’s scrimmage Morgan State rounding into shape as Tyrone Wheatley’s debut nears. By Stephen-Michael Thompson Jr Posted on August 17, 2019
Football season is here and Morgan State is looking to make a bigger impact this season. After a big upset against North Carolina A&T last season, the Bears failed to capitalize after the win in MEAC play. Another coaching change occurred and now former University of Michigan star, Tyrone Wheatley is leading the Bears. Stripped of a spring game, due to NCAA sanctions from last season, Wheatley’s team scrimmaged on Saturday. Here are some takeaways from the game. Wheatley has some big decisions to make and changes to pursue. One of those decisions is the current quarterback situation. Deandre Harris started most games for the Bears last season. But an injury gave way to DJ Golatt. In the last four games of the season, Golatt scored eight touchdowns. His last time out included over 300 yards of total offense against Norfolk State. Despite that, Harris is a senior and has more experience within the program. For the rest of the story:hbcugameday.com/2019/08/17/takeaways-from-morgan-state-scrimmage-tyrone-wheatley/

How many starters did we have returning?
They SHOULD have logically won the game. They shut us down last year with the self-described goat qbing our team. 17 of their starters knew going in how to do it again.
Sometimes it ain’t about excuses or sour grapes. Some teams you play you don’t match up well against and you can’t go off their record alone.

Thanks for posting this!
We knew that we lost 14 starters from last season.
We knew before the season began that our secondary was going to me the weak spot of our team this year.
We knew that, although very capable, we were going to have a new starting QB this season.
We knew before the season began that, despite having the most talent in the MEAC, we would be vulnerable this season.
We're smart enough to know that games aren't won on paper but on the field - usually along the lines of scrimmage. It's always about matchups.
We know that the core of our present coaching staff has brought us 3 out of the last 4 Celebration Bowl wins.
We know that WINNING IS HARD!! Ask coach Broadway.
We know that Morgan State has defeated us 7 out of the last 10 seasons (or is it 8 now?).
We know that sometimes we have bad games - similar to having bad days at work.
Yes, we lost to the Bears...again. How will us Aggies respond? How will our coaches & players respond? Our board posters have seemingly lost their minds. That's okay...as long as our coaches & players don't. The answer will be known soon...
