THE SERIES Elon and North Carolina A&T have met 11 times to date with the Aggies holding a 7-4 series advantage. Though Elon has lost each of the last three meetings between the two sides, all three games have been tight affairs with each of the last two decided by five and seven points, respectively. Elon has visited the Aggies five times to date and has won twice in Greensboro. Last time Elon beat A&T in Greensboro came on Nov. 11, 2006, when the Phoenix defeated the Aggies 45-0, marking the largest margin of victory for either side in any game of the series. This year's game marks the first meeting since Sept. 19, 2015, at Rhodes Stadium. For the rest of the story: elonphoenix.com/news/2019/7/3/football-2019-opponent-preview-north-carolina-a-t.aspx

since both programs are strong at the same time again, can we now consider elon a "rival"?

With our coaching staff returning after a championship season and Elon first year head coach visiting Aggie Stadium, we should have the edge. But with a lot of new faces starting and first game mistakes, I expect a tight game. I think our defense will be fine but I hope the offense can put some points on the board.

SPECIAL TEAMS will always play a big role in any game, especially with game one. Punt returns/kickoff returns/made and blocked FGs/punts......they will be a deciding factor in this 1st game.
Any word on who our starting QB will be??

If my memory serves me correctly, Elon was one of the least penalized teams in all of FCS last season. I know this is a new season as well as the first game of the season but if we're not disciplined and/or have as many penalties as we did in last season's opening game vs. Jacksonville State, it won't end up well for us vs. Elon.

Unfortunately no. But i think this game should be on the schedule yearly Elon or Western Carolina? Which would you prefer? Neither game will put more than a dozen of their fans in our stadium. And if neither schools will draw flies the bus ride to Elon is way shorter. I haven't kept up with Westerns football program lately but I think it's mediocre.

I haven't kept up with Westerns football program lately but I think it's mediocre. WCU isn't a world beater but they have improved over the last couple of years behind a athletic running QB and they brought in a good recruiting class this year. We've been trying to get together a home and home with them but I don't think the dates with all the advanced scheduling has worked out for either school to make it happen. BTW, WCU has a good sized loyal alumni base in the Triad area so I'm certain they bring more fans to Greensboro than Elon ever did.
