We've got to focus as much attention to "nurturing" our students as teaching them. In other words, personally encourage each student's development. PWIs have the funds and resources to provide a great educations so it will be tough to compete at that level. But HBCUs have decades of experience nurturing students to develop way beyond what was expected. We have got to return to those days when every instructor and school administrator wanted to see our students succeed. Some HBCUs focused more on enrollment numbers and forgot about caring for the students. Those HBCUs saw high dropout rates and declining enrollment. Sure academics are important but the students more important.
