Aggies Look Awesome In Shot Put Events at Camel City NCATAGGIES.COM Sat, Feb 2
WINSTON-SALEM (February 2, 2019) – A portion of North Carolina A&T’s men’s and women’s indoor track and field teams completed the Camel City Invitational Saturday afternoon at the JDL Fast Track. Saturday was highlighted by two wins in the shot put. On the women’s side, sophomore Loren James won the event. Sophomore Aaron Wilkerson represented for the men in the shot put. For James, it was her first career indoor win in the shot put. Her highest finish prior was a third-place finish at Virginia Tech earlier this season. James had her best throw go 47-feet, 5 ¾ inches for the best indoor throw of her career. Her previous best throw landed two feet shorter than her throw on Saturday. James’ throw at the Camel Invite could have her at the top of the Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC) rankings by the end of the weekend. Wilkerson took the shot put with his best throw going 52-feet, 11-inches in distance. Three other Aggies finished in the top-10 with Obie Taylor finishing third (50-feet, 6 ¾-inches), senior Derrick Wheeler placing sixth (49-feet, 7 ¼-inches) and freshman Joshua Faison coming in 10th (44-feet, 10 ¼-inches). Wilkerson is second in the conference in the shot put in the MEAC behind Bethune-Cookman’s Jeremiah Peters (56-feet, 5 ¼-inches). Taylor’s throw puts him third in the conference while Wheeler moves into the top-5 and Faison ranks 10th.
