WILSON — Chip Hester, who has been the offensive coordinator and receivers coach for A&T, has been hired as the head football coach for Barton College's resurrected NCAA Division II program that will begin play in 2020. Hester, a 1992 Guilford College graduate, has directed A&T's offense, which recently has featured the likes of running back Tarik Cohen, quarterback Lamar Raynard and wide receiver Denzel Keyes. "This is a great opportunity, and it's a unique opportunity," Hester said today at a news conference. "This doesn't happen all the time, when you get to start from the very beginning and set a culture." read more: www.greensboro.com/sports/college/barton-college-

This leaves Washington in a terrible position, just weeks before the start of fall camp.
Plus Barton doesn't event start playing football until 2020.
I remember Gerber did this type of move to Hayes in 2002 and that season was a disaster.

It's gonna be tuff trying to find a replacement this time of year! It’s gonna have to be an internal hire. Damn. Hilton has his work cut out for him on this one.

Will Coach Barnette be the new OC? he's our best hope to keep our same system in place and he has experience as an oc at guilford college. at a minimum, i would think he would be promoted as our interim oc...

hester is no longer listed on our website as an assistant. to me that tells me that we must have known it was coming, or "potentially" coming. so i would think that coach washington and earl hilton have already strategized how best to deal with hester's departure. i don't think this will be hilton's call, i think this will be coach washington's call...

This could be a blessing in disguise because there are a lot of great coachs that lost there jobs because the head coach was fried after the season and was looking to get on with other major program that didn't pan out and now the A&T job is not that bad or a young coach that is working for a great coordinator needs a place to shine plus we have a couple young coachs that maybe it there time. Let's see what happens
