I watched SCSU/Grand Canyon game. Both teams had at least one international player. Should Joyner take a page out our tennis coach's book and go international to get a 6'11" post player(or two)?

A&T needs to recruit some ballers from anywhere. I agree but sometimes we just don't look. Or don't know how to look. Akande just hit Youtube and found international tennis players and convinced them to come to Greensboro. These kids just want an opportunity to play in the United States. The same can be said for basketball players.

Most of the international talent is very raw and you must have a staff that can teach post play or you invest by sending the kid to a summer big man camp. Its one thing to bring in raw talent but if you dont have a plan to develop them its a waste of time to spend more on recruiting an international player.. There are bunches of low mid-majors that have a 6'10 - 7'0 post players from Europe or Africa that averages 2 points 4 rebounds and 1 block.
Again not worth the additional recruiting cost if you dont have and assistant who can teach the post or you are willing to poor some outside $ in to developing the kid.

The same can be said for basketball players. The dynamic with tennis is slightly different because you're dealing with partial scholarships. Unless the student is an exceptional scholar, their family is paying the rest of the bill, so there's more motivation to achieve at a higher level. With basketball, the scholarships are pretty much fulls for recruited players. And the international tennis players tend to be more developed than the domestic kids, compared to what Frisco referred to about basketball players. That said... I agree that it's good to think outside the box.

You have to find the right international or any player that fits your system ! Most international teams especially the good European big men play a different style if you have ever had the chance to watch them! They just don't stand in the paint not to say that they can't but the good ones play from the outside in..lol So you have to find the right big to fit your system and yes they or raw if you just want them to hang around the basket! When I saw Pau Gasol playing for Barcelona in the Spanish ACB League he played more as a forward then a center but that is what you get with a lot of international players . Don't just recruit a Big but recruit a Big that fits your system !
