A good portion of the check......The players are usually in hotels 3-4 days before Bowl Game so its not your typical one night stay..If you get into having to purchase the ticket allotment it most certainally would be a losing deal. The conference would make out well and the other playing members would get a small check for sitting at home on their _____.

Nothing has been released so everything is just speculation and conjecture at this point. This seems to be the range of the conversation: $1,000,000 total payout Conference champ = $250 - 300k conference football playing members = $15 - 20k MEAC HQ = $500 - 600k *Travel and expenses would come from the conference champions payout. There would also be a required ticket allotment for the participating teams. Shouldn't the travel some of the other expenses be paid by the conference not the champion schools. No...that's not the way bowl games work. Teams pay for their own expenses out of their bowl game payout.

well, personally i don’t look at this debate from a financial point of view. nobody makes money on the fcs playoffs and the soul bowl won’t net nobody nothing but “peanuts”. playing just 1 fbs money game would “easily” trump any proceeds from the soul bowl. to me, the decision to forfeit our autobid just for some “peanuts” and total “isolation” from the rest of the fcs schools is why i’m against the soul bowl.
i see a much bigger picture than the “peanuts” payout for the soul bowl versus a beatdown in the playoffs. first and foremost, from a “public relations” stand point, the entire concept of forfeiting our autobid just to participate in the soul bowl has “quitters” written all over it and i “personally” despise that image.
number 2, if you understand the history of this country relative to the survival of hbcu’s from day 1 of our very existence, then like me you’d completely understand why hbcu’s struggle in the fcs playoffs today. so unlike many others, i’m not embarrassed in the least bit with the meac’s poor performance in the playoffs. hbcu’s performed just as poorly in the d2 playoffs until one connell maynor and bill hayes came along. if the ciaa had abandoned the d2 playoffs prior to the maynor/hayes era, maynor would’ve never made history as the only hbcu head coach to make it to the d2 national championship game.
number 3, i’m very proud of our hbcu heritage and i do not shy away from our hbcu identity. however, while i embrace our hbcu identity, i do not like the idea of “total isolation” from the fcs landscape at large. i luv being an hbcu, but i don’t like being “pigeon holed” into an hbcu “only” identity and that’s exactly what the forfeit of our autobid in favor of an “hbcu only” bowl game does. the fcs playoffs was the only thing that “linked” us to the fcs national landscape. now, in terms of the fcs, we are “fcs” by name only. there’s no relevance to playing fcs pwc’s no more because it doesn’t mean “jack” relative to the fcs national landscape.
i think the soul bowl idea stinks if it means giving up our autobid. i’d be all for the soul bowl if if we kept our autobid and they accept our highest ranked team that doesn’t qualify for the playoffs...

If you want to play with the big boys then you better learn to master their rules.

I hope somebody in the A&T Athletic Departments makes an announcement about what will happen in the post season real soon. We are just weeks away for our second "spring practice" and possibly our most successful football season in nearly 14 or 15 years and all the attention and energy on this board is focused on what may or may not happen at the end of the season.
Here's what I've concluded after weeks of debate, arguments and even some name-calling...those that want to continue playing in the FCS playoff will never accept the "Soul Bowl" and those that are open to playing in the "Soul Bowl" are convinced the FCS playoff is a losing proposition and neither side will change their minds. So it's a draw! Now will someone remind me who's going to be our starting QB this fall and how's Cowen's health this off season?

Thanks oleschoolaggie, it's been so long since we actually talked about A&T football, I forgot Cohen's name. Thanks for the update...any update on Quick's rehab? I'd rather discuss our "injury report" rather than that MEAC/SWAC crap any more.

I think he is talking about Quick's health. welp, we're hearing that quick will have to undergo surgery on his knee. apparently it never did heal 100%, quick was never the same quick we saw prior to the howard game when he came back later in the season. if i were a betting man, i'd bet that quick will not be 100% rehabilitated to play football by the start of the season. if i'm coach broadway, i'm making plans as if quick will not play this upcoming season...
