So here are the stats for CCU's game against Citadel. They won the game 31-16 and had a balanced Offensive attack. www.goccusports.com/sports/m-footbl/stats/2014-2015/game1.html#GAME.TEMAlex Ross, their QB thew for 263 yards on 24 of 32 pass attempts and had a TD. His favorite target was Bruce Mapp who had 10 receptions for 108 yards and a TD. Ross connected with 7 different receivers during the game. It appears Coastal will not hesitate to spread the love around and go after the open receiver. I can tell you right now if we give this kid time, he will pick you apart. Ross appears to be one of the top Quarterbacks in FCS this year. They also have a rushing attack as well going for 187 yards on the ground. We will need to sustain drives and keep that offense on the sidelines. The crazy thing is Coastal gave up almost 400 yards on the ground to Citadel and did not win time of Possession. I do like how our Offensive line matches up against Coastal Carolina too. We will be able to run the ball against them even with them stacking the box most of the game, giving us man coverage on the outside. This will be our toughest game of the season hands down. Thoughts?

We might have to beat them in a high scoring affair if we are to win. Quick will be the key. They will probably load the box and make us try and throw the ball.

Their passing offense will score often and fast if our DBs play like they did today. And they will pack the line on our offense and dare Quick to pass. It's going to be a long day for our defense if we cannot put up a lot of points.

Is there any chance, barring a freak injury, that Quick will not be the starter on Saturday?

Like I've been saying all along, if Quick can consistently hit the mid-range passes (10-25yds), we will be hard to stop, bar none. Mix that with his ability to run the read option along woth Cohen, defenses would have to pick their poison. Either Cohen has a field da. Or Lawrence and Co. torches you. You gotta love it... but Quick has to be able to consistently hit those mid-range passes.
Secondary has enough talent to play man coverage, but we have to mix coverages throughout the game. They are still learning, when it comes together...watch out!!!

Protect the ball. I like what I'm reading. We have some playmakers.

It would be great if we could get 20,000 attendance for this game.

Should be a good crowd since it's the first home game, the good showing yesterday and the high expectations. I will expect no less than 15k at a minimum.

Here is a thread from their forum on us. www.coastalfans.com/forum/index.php?topic=57651.0There is a sense our play calling won't give them too much of a problem. I hope we prove them wrong. I got the sense we played a relatively vanilla game against A&M but our history of play calling in pressure situations on both sides of the ball has me worried a bit. I am suspecting that Coastal is going to attempt to jump on us early and attack our secondary.

Unfortunately Coastal's strength (effective passing QB) is our weak spot (defensive backs). If we can find a way to make Quick a better passer and our DB's better covering receivers in one week we will have a shot. Miracles can happen.

From the Myrtle Beach Sun News: www.myrtlebeachonline.com/2014/09/01/4446023_coastal-carolina-football-notes.html?sp=/99/167/&rh=1Coastal Carolina roundup: Football team moves up in national polls From staff reports September 1, 2014 With its 31-16 win at The Citadel to open the season Saturday night, the Coastal Carolina football team made a strong early statement and saw that reflected in the latest FCS national rankings released Monday. The Chanticleers moved up two spots in both major polls, checking in at No. 4 in the FCS Coaches Poll and No. 5 in The Sports Network's media poll. The No. 5 ranking in the media poll ties a program best, matching the mark set last season after the team's 9-0 start. The Chants have been ranked as high as No. 3 in the coaches poll, reaching that level for three weeks last season. Coastal Carolina will look for another strong showing this Saturday night as it visits North Carolina A&T (1-0) in Greensboro, N.C. The Aggies are receiving votes in both national polls after defeating Alabama A&M, 47-13, on Sunday.
