Just heard it from someone close to the program. Lamar Raynard understands fully why he is being reshirted and is committed to being "Aggie born and Aggie bred". Look for brother Raynard to take this year to get stronger and learn the OC's system so that he can make some noise in the years to come.

We gotta avoid posting these personnel items on the public side. Can we move this to the private forum?

Why.....we acting as if we got secret footage of him robbing a liquor store. Only thing 2ru posted was he understands the reason behind his redshirt and he's a committed Aggie....no big deal here....

Agree with NSS , this ain't the secret recipe for KFC chicken . I think the talk of him not being happy was coming from his supporters . Got no problem with them rooting for their homey ,but they twisted the truth quite a bit .To me this says a lot about how "Funky B" feels about the kid , I believe he thinks he has a diamond in the ruff ,and just wants to groom him for the future . That's the way it's done in the "Big Boy Pants League".

Why wouldn't he be ok with a redshirt?
Who reading this would have a problem with a redshirt year? Seriously?
For argument's sake, let's say you were the best at your position as a true freshman at A&T and coach said "redshirt." Knowing what you know at this stage in life, would you have any problem with it whatsoever?
Me, I'd be begging for a redshirt before I even hit campus. The last thing I'd want to do is have to be starting as a freshman taking on old azz fifth year seniors and trying to make it in the classroom. Dawg, I'd be in the library all day and all night trying to make sure I'm honor roll, and then I'd be learning the playbook slowly and lifting them weights.
I'm a competitor, but I'm also a realist. One injury can change your game (see Kindle for example 1) and possibly your whole danged life. The further developed you are in both areas the better.

Only Ellsworth Turner started as a freshmen that I can recall but not immediately ..... He was exceptionally mature, physically and mentally.

I started as a true freshman (before Ellsworth Turner I might add even though we were on the same team) and I guess back then we looked at redshirting differently. I even switched from defensive line to offensive line in order to get on the field earlier. There are advantages to both I guess.

If you look at it from the eyes of an 18 year old... Redshirt equates to them as sitting the bench.. They go from being the star of there school starting from possibly 4 to 2 years then being told ... this year your not going to play! It's a natural response to competitive athlete.

Knowing what you know at this stage in life... Heck naw I wouldn't have wanted to redshirt back thenI also drank and drove, had unprotected premarital relations, stole cheese from the grocery store, and routinely drove over 90 mph. I'm not equating not redshirting to those vile habits. I am saying your outlook changes with wisdom. At lease mine has. I suspect that while he currently may feel discouraged in time he'll feel very good about it and be happy with the decision.

It's a natural response to competitive athlete. that's true. too often times we equate the wisdom and knowledge that we have obtained during our post graduate years to that of an 18 year old teenager. you're absolutely correct, i might have felt the same way had it happened to me at that age. that's why its so important to have coaches and administrators who can help guide and mentor these youth, on and off the field...

You left the most important thing off, "His Family." you're absolutely right for a kid who's family lives nearby. but for kids who's families lives far away from greensboro (which is the case for most of the players), ya gotta have someone on campus to give them the day to day guidance that their families can no longer provide due to distance. but you're right, the family is far and away the most important aspect of raising a child and mentoring his decision making. however, relative to redshirting or who starts versus who doesn't, its not always a good thing to have some parents participate in that decision making for their kid because often times parents are very biased in favor of their child which is very understandable, but that's not always good for their son. family doesn't always provide an "objective" point of view on competitive issues such as the decisions made by the coaches because they are too invested "emotionally" in their child. not all parents are like that, but some are...

I totally disagree on the statement about parents participating in red-shirt decision. Are you serious? They are his parents and will always have a say in their sons decisions for the rest his or their's life. WOW!
