BEARS ADVANCE Jones shut out by Plymouth Staff reports
Nov 24, 2007 12:00 am
The never give up New Bern football team had its backs against the ropes for the first time all season.
However, the team’s determination prevailed it to a 40-38 win over Millbrook in the third round of the 4-AA state playoffs on Friday.
The Bears were behind by three points with 36 seconds remaining. Millbrook took the lead on a Kuwon Eldridge 3-yard touchdown run.
New Bern drove 70 yards and scored the winning touchdown on the last play of the game when senior Kevin Reddick leapt over the Wildcats defense and plunged into the end zone for a 1-yard touchdown as time expired.
Quarterback Brett Williams completed two deep passes to Demarcus Howell, moving it to the one-yard line.
Freshman Terrell Lindsay had two big plays — a 75-yard kickoff return with five minutes remaining in the game and a 40-yard touchdown catch off a screen pass with nine minutes remaining.
The Bears will host Leesville Road Friday in the East Division finals — just a game away from reaching states.
Williams threw a 52-yard touchdown pass to Mike Price in the first quarter. Vince McDuffie added a 1-yard touchdown run for New Bern and Reddick added a 20-yard interception return for a score.
Reddick had two interceptions and a sack.

Lamont "Burger" Jones played for New Bern...and then played for the Aggies.
Is Coach Leroy Wade still at New Bern? He use to be the track coach...

Yeah,
Coach Wade is still there. He coaches at West Craven Middle School. He and I are good friends. I saw him about 2 or 3 years ago at the HS ALL Star game in Greensboro. Leroy coached me in football. He was about 2 years out of college at NCCU.
