seemingly, hilton and martin are really doing a good job fixing a lot of things that went wrong with our athletic department. football and men's basketball have been turned around, and we're even "adding" new sports down the road. our websites are now excellent and much more modern. we've built a brand new pressbox.
but what about our football radio broadcasts? we aggies have been complaining about the poor quality of our our aggie football radio broadcasters for many years now. so my question is, will there be any changes made to our broadcasting crew this year? is this issue even a concern for dr. martin?
anybody who knows the answer to those questions, please do respond. or, please respond even if you have an opinion on that matter...

I have no clue, but from what I'm reading on Onnidan and I quote
"A&T games are broadcast on WNAA, which is A&T's campus station. I know the A&T radio crew. Spencer is about to start his 50th (and final) season as the voice of the aggies. I've Billy since elementary school. I kid him often about how they sound and some of the stuff that comes out of his mouth. I've known Al since I was a child. All 3 are old and need to retire. They will be retired after this season.
NCCU games can be hear over the internet and through an app if you can down load it to your listening device. But we still need to be on the radio. I do like the fact that the NCCU Eagle Nation can listen to all football, basketball (men & women), baseball, and some volleyball matches via the internet."

If Sloping said it then you can take it to the bank. He is very reliable.

During A&T's football season I refuse to listen to WNAA. I am too embarrassed to listen. I know the A&T announcers love their school and feel they are contributing a valuable service to the University but it really is time for a change.
If we are ever going to increase our fan base we will have to promote our games better. That's starts with our game-day broadcasts. Good announcers will help hype the game and educate the public about the players and the team. They get alumni and the casual football fan interested in seeing the great sports spectacle happening at Aggie Stadium. That's not happening now.
It's pointless to discuss it any further because everyone knows it's a problem. All I can say is shame on the AD for not handling this!

If a change comes then so be it.
I have always liked hearing the broadcast. Flaws an all. It just puts me into a football mood, and I just feel like Im in school again (I would be in Scott Hall during an away game with the radio on.). Dont ask me why, but it does. I dont know, it's like a Harry Caray vibe.
To hear Mel getting excited during a TD run hypes me up.

I know one thing, they sound a whole lot better when we're winning.

Well if it's Spencer and Mel's last season in the booth, they deserved to be honored at the end of the season. I'm like PJ, for better or worse they are one of the main things I associate with Aggie Football. Knowing the score, time remaining on the clock or the actual down and distance is not that big a deal

I wonder why there cannot be a collaborative effort between Athletics and the Communications Departments that will allow students earn credit hours that work in concert with the athletic events. Whether it be broadcasting or general filming or whatever is involved with Mass Communications...just a thought.

Yes, their age has been showing in broadcasting the last few years but they don't deserve any disdain for their performances. Their loyalty to the institution and their entire body of work for so many years speak volumes about their character.
It appears, if the information is true, the university is allowing this team to retire this year and go out on their own terms which I don't have a problem with. The team of Spence and Mel are an institution when it comes to broadcasting A&T athletics for nearly five decades.

We have to increase the SID/Communications portion of the Athletics Budget.

actually, it wouldn’t bother me if mel and spence stuck around as broadcast “commentators” if we bring onboard another play-by-play guy. we all luv mel and spence, they’re true and loyal aggies. and their voices definitely symbolize many years of aggie football. indeed they should be “honored” before they retire. but its time for some new blood in the booth and hopefully it’ll be someone who is relatively young who will become the new voice of aggie football over the long term...

Mel S. has not called a game in about 2 years due to his health. Let's pray that he gets better. Spencer and "The Handsome" Billy will be calling the games along with a new guy that was with them last year. I don't remember his name.
