Tip No. 1 - Catch the football. . Tip No. 2 - Fall the hell down. . That's it. It really is that simple.

Exactly. No matter the formation, do we need any more coaching than that? If so, we are in trouble.

Looks simple to me and I never played football.

For those of you that didn't play football, #1 is not easy if you are not used to doing it and you don't practice it.

Was it just me or did the guy that tried to catch the onside look like a linemen or linebacker and NOT a "hands" guy?

So now we should spend 1 hr on practice for special team. Look how many blocked punts and missed XP in the NFL this past weekend. Hey the Washington Redskings did the same thing on Sunday when they did not go get the ball on the onside kick. Plus of all onside kick how many kicks are just straight ahead like Howard did.
For all of you football expert out there. With 3:23 to go how many people would have thought they would done an onside kick. And after the flag on the first one would you have thought they would done it again

It was an obvious onside kick situation. Down 6 under 4 minutes you dont kick the ball down the field.
I'm not downing the kid for missing it. I was just asking was that the "Hands" squad out there? I saw the play and that would have been tough for even a hands guy to grab. it kinda bounced right towards his face.

And yeah...considerable time should be dedicated to the special teams. Look how many games we've lost because the Aggies perform so POORLY on special teams.

I was just asking was that the "Hands" squad out there? You are assuming we have one.

If you have timeouts with 4:00 min to go about 75% of the time teams will kick it deep and play defense. You usually have 2 or 3 hands guy and you have big lineman to block the guys out so the hands guys can get the ball. A lot of time the hands guys are on the side.
I could see your point Aggyprd but we need to spend a lot of time on defense

After kickoff your at 3:00 without the ball and only 2 timeouts. ASSUMING you hold for 3 and out your down to 2:00 with a punt coming and no timeouts. Everyone in the stadium knew the onside was coming. What's the difference between 3 and out at the 50 vs 3 and out at the 30. It was a no-brainer to kick the onside. Not to mention Speedy had killed them with field position all game. They couldn't kick it deep or A&T would have been up to the 40 anyway. Did you watch the game?

Jeff, even if they did kick it deep don't you think it would be better to have your "hands" team out there for the possibility they didn't? Well hell, I do, along with everybody else on this thread. I'm sure our coaches do as well now that they've been victimized by it. Hindsight is 20/20.
Use it.
Remember, our special teams coach is in his first year at the position. He also coaches our qbs. I don't think he has much experience (there's that word again) coaching either.
Why was Coach Stewart let go?
Hindsight is 20/20.

I didn't watch the game so I don't know what happened. I listened on the radio. Has anyone actually been to practice? Do we know for sure that they don't teach these thing? I know this for sure. I was at a game early in the season when the team pooched the kick off. No one tried to get the ball and we lost the ball. Question, don't you think one that the coaches discussed and practiced this play after that. Two, don't you think that even if they didn't, the kids should have learned from that play. Third, sometimes no matter how much you practice and how good you are sometimes it doesn't wok out for you. Example, Dallas and Buffalo. Everybody knew that Dallas was going to on side kick, yet Buffalo got the ball and scored.
