Born,
No one wants to see A&T do well more than me.. ANd to be honest, I haven't seen anything to get excited about (other than see the guys do well in spurts).. When I see us play teams that we have equivalent or better talent than, and we still find a way to lose or find a way to get outcoached, then thats what upsets me. I come on this board and read the comments after the Winston, PV & Central games, and everyone, including you Born, is excited and ecstatic about the outcomes, saying, we were in there, had a shot, looked good some series..but truth of the matter is NONE of these teams were anywhere close to being good. Central only beat ECSU by a score of 6-0 and def didnt have offense. The only reason I didnt post this early is b/c it was good to see true Aggie fans excited about the program for once in the last 2 years and I didnt want to start any controversy of "steal yalls joy"... If it has become the Aggie standard to merely be in games that we should have won, then we have completley wrong attitude.
Of course were more creative w/ the direct snap etc..But when the teams game plan and changed the way that they would defend it, you see we put a goose egg in the second half. You can fool any coach with that stuff once, but bet your last dollar that he will put a plan in place to stop it the next time (speedys direct snap thing). The same route combination ( post & dig) that killed us last yr against Norfolk was the same exact thing that was run last night. Our safety bit EVERY time last night, same as last year..And was definitley not being coached. We had a young guy last year doing it (Dorsey) and a veteran transfer (Croley) getting beat yesterday. If you pull up my old post, I have never been critical of the players, because I actually think that we had equivalent talent on the team last year, but always critical and skeptical of the coaching staff.
I always read between the lines. Through all the press realeses and all. Adams was always playing cover 3 b/c the staff said that we felt we didnt have the secondary to play man coverage. I read a preseason article said that this is the best secondary that Oliver's had since he's been the DB coach at A&T (About 4 years). This tells me that he has talent but is not apt to coach them up. Correct if Im wrong, but in his time as coach, have we had an All Meac defensive back or even an honorable mention selection?? In the recent past, you could always count on seeing at least one A&T DB on the list. It's not the talent, there just not being taught how to work in a scheme, developed, or coached.
And again, everyone gets sooo excited when we're in the game with Central, but as soon as we play a teammate that somewhat resembles a D1aa program, we get embarrassed and blown out of the water. THis youth excuse is not an excuse either, Hampton lost 18 seniors last year, and Norfolk lost the majority of their talent and seniors from last year. Everyone has lost players..Pull up the depth chart and look at the classification. Aside from Winston, we havent played a team that was heavily laden with a strong senior or junior class.
Most of our guys understand the game of football, and probably will be future college/HS coaches and can smell BS when somethings not right. -Jaffe aka Sire

I'm deferring back to my 2 new catch phrases.
"Hope Offense"- Pick a play, hope it works. "Dont get mad, get better"
This staff has no clue. Get rid of them and keep no left overs. AD included. Strength and conditioning did well, I see a big improvement there. the rest of the bunch can go. i'm not impressed in the slightest with anyone.
I held my opinion until the 4th game, but I'm convinced Lee Fobbs can not get it done EVER. He may get 5-6 wins in a year with some good talent but he will never get 8 or 9 no matter the talent. His practice preperation or lack there of really shows in the teams "3 stooges" style of play. A well coached team would be at least 3-2 right now.

There are a lot key things that must be done to have success next year but one realistic one is keeping your players so you don't have a big turnover in players. Fobbs has to hold on to his players through the losing this season, next spring practice and summer. Any significant defection and this program will go 0-11 next year.

I am going to trying my best to put a positive spin on this season. This is the toughest season. Last season was bad, but I could accept it because "we got a new coach" and "the cupboards were bare"
We are on the worst losing streak ever. I have never experienced anything like this as a fan (oh thats right I am an O's fan). But anyway.... I constantly get calls from Alums from the other MEAC schools offering sympathy or to rub it in.
But allow me to (attempt) put a positive spin on this season so far: -The offense looks better than last year. (Wouldn't you agree?) -The defense definitely looks better than last year. (Yes?) -The special teams.... Let me go on to my next point. -You can actually see where the team needs improvement compared to last year. -We have actually had hope during parts of the last two games.
WINNING SOLVES EVERYTHING.
Will we get a win this season? Prognosis: doubtful, but everyone has a punchers chance.
As a negotiator would say to a jumper: "Come over here and have a seat with me" (the rest of the fans).

I am now convinced that 8 or 9 wins are not achievable by the coaching staff, no matter the talent.

YOu know what is real disappointing...My brother called my after the 1st half hype... and then the wheels fell completely off. My father-in-law called me after the 1st drive and we were both excited, thinking this was going to be the one. Then we kicked off and NSU ran it back to midfield Another partner called when we were leading in the 2nd quarter, then the 70 yard bomb Nobody called after that

Jaffe, as I have told you offline, I often agree with your analysis of the game. I also feel that you have decided long time ago that Fobbs was not a good coach and there is nothing he can do to change your mind. That is your opinion and you are entitled to it.
However, what I don't understand is that you don't even seem to have a desire to be proven wrong. I really don't sense that you want this program to become successful again. I think you much rather just have somebody say "Jaffe, you were right. You are a true insider. You were right all along"
I mean seriously, in what way have you tried to make things better around here? Did you contribute to the on-line fundraiser? Have you joined the Aggie or Victory Club? Have you volunteered to help Fobbs and the staff, since you obviously have experience around college football?
What have you done besides spread rumors about the staff during the offseason and criticize every thing about the program? Personally, I am all about solutions. I ask myself "what I can I do to make a situation better" not "how can I re-state the obvious that my team is garbage?"
Doomsday is my best friend on the planet and he is the most negative/glass-half-empty person I know when it comes to A&t football. However, even he hopes deep down inside that A&T can someone fix its problems and become competitve again.
I think everyone on this board knows that A&T's football program is the worst in the free world and has sucked for quite a while now. You are not the only person who can read a box score. However, some of us hope against hope that there is a light at the end of the tunnel.

Enlightened - everything looks better when compared to last years team. I don't know where to find the stats, but I'm willing to say that our stats compare (un)favorably to any year during PV's worst ever 0-80 losing streak. We need some experience on the staff at a few key spots (OC & QB Coach) but I don't know how likely we are to be able to get those key staff additions

Why aren't comparing ourselves to the teams we play. Is our goal to be better than last year or better than the teams we play? Ok; Hampton beat us 20-48 last year (in Hampton) this year they beat us 14-59, NSU beat us 20-42 last year (in Norfolk), this year 20-50, how's that for improving. The thing we can compare to last year is number of wins. When do we start measuring our program on that metric.
