Chancellors to speak today on football melee web.nccu.edu/athletics By Eric Ferreri, Staff Writer DURHAM - The chancellors of N.C. Central and N.C. A&T universities today plan to jointly address the fallout from the melee that broke out following Saturday's game. Chancellors Charlie Nelms of NCCU and Stanley F. Battle of A&T are scheduled to speak at a 3 p.m. news conference. A number of questions remain following the free-for-all, including when and whether the rivals will play each other in football again. NCCU trustees, holding a regular meeting today, said they stood behind Nelms to decide how to respond to the post-game fight. "What happened following the game was neither exciting nor acceptable," said Nelms, who was attending his first meeting of the trustees since he became chancellor earlier this year. "No individual, no groups of individuals are greater than the institution. We are in control of the situation." The midfield clash came at the end of the game iin Greensboro, which the NCCU Eagles won, 27-22. Security officials had to separate the players, and one officer used pepper spray. Nelms and Battle's news conference will take place in the Dowdy Administration building at A&T in Greensboro.
