Explain to me why we cannot get to 63 scholarships today. I thought the NCAA gave us the nod to get to that number. What is holding us up.

Why use all of then up if you don't need too??? Broadway knows what he is doing! Also because the NCAA gives you 63 scholarships you don't have to use them all. By not using a few here are their you have more room to work with in the following years !!

That's not a lot of time to properly vett all the kids. He has to make sure he's signing kids who will help enhance our apr scores.

No rush. He got his 27 freshmen for this year not indcluding transfers. He plans to sign 30 in 2013. Best to get the 30 best out of the class of 2013 than just grabbing anyything and everything. He can't afford a mistake in his signings either this year or next if he wants this APR monkey off his back for good by next fall.

this marion kid reminds me a lot of the frederick kid that coach lee once recruited who never put on an aggie uniform. sure hope marion is not a case of deja vu... I don't think Broadway would have signed him if he was "marginally" academically...been there, done that over the last 8 years! nah, never thought marion's grades would be a problem like frederick's because marion's highlight video showed that he had a 3.0 gpa. i just get a little nervous when someone commits to us but spends a year at another school first. don't know if he signed a letter of intent or if he did, don't know if it is binding for more than a year. a lot can happen in a year's time, just like scsu stole one of our recruits last year who had committed to us a year in advance. this kid's talent is undeniable. i just hope we've got him locked in...

Not saying this is the case but a 3.0 GPA does not mean much at all with a low SAT Score. In today's world schools could give 2 cents about your grades unless you took AP High School Courses - its all about the SAT Score

He can't afford a mistake in his signings either this year or next if he wants this APR monkey off his back for good by next fall. aggieone, when i first went thru our apr status in detail, i thought our predicament was such a dire situation that we may not recover from it for a very long time. we're still not out of the woods by any stretch, but there is a light at the end of the tunnel. i hate to over simplify stuff because it won't be easy, but all we need is 2 consecutive "banging" apr scores and like you said, we should be virtually free and clear of apr penalties by next fall if we can do that. and of course the way the apr score works, you get 1 point for every scholarship player who remains eligible academically and you get 1 point for every scholarship player who remains at a&t. if we don't lose any scholarship players from last year's team and they all remain academically eligible this year, we'll have a perfect apr score for the 2011-12 school year. so our apr goal should be to retain all of our scholarship players and for all of them to remain academically eligible for this year. well, i did a quick electronic comparison between this year's roster and last year's roster. it may not be perfect but according to the results i got, the only players from last year's roster who are not on this year's roster are listed below. my "assumption" is that all players on our active roster this year are academically eligible, but of course that could change. again, this comparison may not be perfect. i'm trusting that microsoft word got it right, i didn't eye ball it 100%. also, all of the guys listed below may not be on football scholarship which won't hurt our apr if they didn't return. and, i guess last year's seniors would need to meet eligibility requirements or graduated for us to get apr credit for them. when i looked at the list, "as best i could tell", none of the underclassmen were scholarship players. however, i could be wrong because i'm not sure who's all on scholarship. but if i'm right, we should have a pretty good apr this year. anyway, here's the abbreviations key. classifications are based on last year. f - freshman, so -sophomore, j - junior, s - senior, r - redshirt. Alford, Julian - rj Binder, Ben - s Coles, Antoinnialrose - s Epps, Zachary - f Harper, Alex - s Hearn, Thomas - s Jenkins, Lamarcus - rf Jones, Allen - rj Malone, Alex - f McNeil, Daniel - rf Nelson, Marcus - rso Rome, Brandon - f Shidler, Sullivan - so Shipman, Darryl - f Smith, Brandon - rso Walker, Brenton - s Weaks, James - s Williams, Jermaine - f Wood, Marlowe - f

Thomas Hearns is a fifth year senior (injury red shirt) and the starting center for this year. Rose, Weaks, Alford, Harper, Walker, Binder, and Jones all due to have graduated this past spring. Nelson and McNiel were scholarship guys under Lee but I haven't asked about their current status.
I can't speak 100% to the rest of them, but I'm pretty sure they were all walk-ons (no money) for last year.

thefriscotxaggie: I agree to dis agree with you on some of your statement!! With the new changes by the NCAA and college rules. The SAT Score is looked at but not as hard as the over all GPA> Now days a Kid can have a low SAT score but if his/her GPA is high and in the Top 10% of their class> he/she can be cleared by the clearing house for athletes, and kids can get into most colleges now days. I'm not saying that it's right but that is how business is being done at the high school/college level now. Low SAT/ACT scores are being overruled by a high GPA now. That's why you get a lot of Students and Student Athletes that have high GPA's out of high school but have to take Remedial classes at the college level. I'm in agreement with TFTxA it is better to look at the SAT/ACT scores but even then it's a dice game because High Schools and parents are not preparing kids like the old days!! Teaching good study habits at home and so forth and that is true even with the so called AP classes. Recruiting now days is more of a Buyer Beware Market !! oleschoolaggie: in Marion's case he could have be looking to attend a bigger school as his reason for going to a prep school?? Because we get players all the time that are good students but they did not get looked at by the college that they were looking at. So they take the prep school are JC rout. It happens all the time.

Saabman you bring of a good point but with a 3.0 GPA I guarantee that you are not in the top 10% of your class and if you are with a 3.0 its not a very good high school. Typically the Top 10 percent of a high school class are the kids that take AP classes because in many cases the AP class A equals + 4.0.
I dont like the 10% rule either. But you are correct that a kid can have a big SAT score but no real study habits. I know I got one (high school junior) at home.
