Being that this is Shelton's first game starting, it will be interesting to see who will be the OC and head signal caller this week. In the past, every time that Ive seen Herb or Wayne run to the side line to get a play or to get coached up....It was always THe O-Line Coach Ray making the calls and counseling the QB's when they came off the field. And does Fobbs ever have a play calling sheet in his hands on the sideline? I never see one..
QB is the hardest position on the football field, and its tough to ask an 18-19 yr old Redshirt freshman thats never played to read coverages, dissect plays and make the right decesion. Hell, in the spring when everyone expected Campbell and Miller to return, Morgan was on special teams and was scout team qb and didnt even really spend much time learning the system.
Everybody keeps saying that we dot have a bonafied Special Teams coach, but in reality, we dont really have an chief offensive coordinator either. NO offense to Ray, but being as NAIA (glorified high school coach), where they probably throw the ball <5 times a game and never having coached QB's is not gonna cut it in this situation. He's not prepared to go up against these guys who have been coaching black college football for 30 yrs and know what it takes to win and motivate these young kids. We had better or equivalent talent than Winston & Prarie View, and were still beaten and out coached. We continue to struggle to score, although we have some great offensive weapons. Our offense has absolutley no creativity, and no hint of being lead by a strong/competent coach. I would like to see Fobbs earn his 175K and get Shelton ready mentally when he comes to the sideline and tailor a game planned fitted to utilize his strenghts.
I think that alot of ppl on this board are happy with the Winston & Prarie View outcomes ..but the truth of the matter is, we've had better talent than both and been outcoached....Hampton is another breed of team and Coach Taylor is a master at what he does. A great coach can take a team with less than expected talent and win against superior opponents by scheming and game planning. I dont see that here..With our play calling, I cant imagine us winning a game against a team that obviouslly has better talent than us.
We all know about the App St upset, and Elon lost to S. FLorida by only 2 touchdowns, and S. FLorida beat Auburn, who was ranked 16th at the time. With the growth of our campus and overrall appeal of A&T, you cant tell me that we shouldnt be up there with these teams, and not struggling against the Winstons, Pv's & D2's of the world.
If we dont beat Central next week...What game is there a realistic chance to win? We are currently ranked 120 out of 121 D1aa teams. This is so sad to see a once great tradition hit rock bottom. The players are smart guys and know when a coach is incompetent, and they even read this board. It is demoralizing to know that you can win, but not being put in the right places to make plays. Some of the players tried to tell us about the coaching situation (I.E. Japan and others) and we sit here and discredit everythng they say.
-Maybe we need to pull a Belichik and start stealing some game plans.... We cant continue to go into matches with these High School playbooks. Im not ready to give Fobbs the benefit of the doubt on this one either...He's got the LSU & Texas A&M playbooks and I still havent seen any points on the board or any offensive creativity to utilize the weapons that we do have. I think the last couple of games have showed us that its not the talent level. but moreso schemes & crucial breakdowns.
IF we switched Coaching Staffs w/ Winston, I Can almost gaurantee you that the 22-7 outcome would have been the same...except we would have gotten the W
