I remember my senior year sitting in the cold and rain watching us battle App. State to the wire. 10 years later they are the 2 Time Defending National Champions and beating Michigan. Meanwhile we are... 1992 @ App. St. L (42 – 6) 1993 Home W (22-10) 1994 @ App. St L (45 – 0) 1995 Home L (38-31) I know I am bringing something up again, but d@mn why did Hayes get fired?? 2-9 5-6 9-2 9-3 9-3 8-3 6-5 4-7 8-3 7-4 8-3 11-2 8-3 8-3 4-8 That’s only 4 losing seasons in 15 years, and 2 of those were when he took over the program. The team he left after the 4-8 season won the MEAC the next year. What I would give to go 8-3 again

You'd have to ask Renick. He fired him.
Of course I think Renick's voicemail might be full because it's being made to appear he has a lot to answer for.

A&T is in communications with App State to play a football game in the near future maybe as soon as next year.

Prairie View said the same thing once... Faith is not getting the job done. There needs to be a concrete plan behind it.
I don't think we're in the position to take any more demoralizing losses right now. We are negotiating to be their tune-up game if we are negotiating with them. We need to be negotiating with Savannah State and Cheyney right about now. You're not helping the situation by playing a I-A program in the guise of a I-AA. App State isn't how you get a monkey off your back. Ask Lloyd Carr.

i'm with Dooms, all we would do is get your boys beat up and loss a couple of keys starters for games we could have won if we had them. Not to mention the recruits that we loose. Kids already prefer App State, so if they saw us get murdered it would be even worse.

That's a fear and quit attitude! Let's play the game. We need to have more faith in our coaches and players.

That's a fear and quit attitude! Let's play the game. We need to have more faith in our coaches and players. That sounds like "AD talk", not a coach. ADs say stuff like "let's play them so we can get better". Coaches say "what the F did he/she schedule that game for? They trying to get me out of here!". It will be that same AD that fires the coach for not winning it, LOL.

We need to be able to be competitive and win consistentley in the MEAC first before talk of playoffs/postseason...Im for playing the big boys...just not right now, in our current state.. We cant even beat Winston or Central right now..You dont get better by losing by 60..
We could have played App State this year, but Fobbs & Co. wisely declined..Smartest thing he's done since he's been here ( I couldn't resist)

When I think about the fact that we played them pretty even back in the day, this could have been us if football was seen as an important part of the overall marketing plan for the university. I won't lie. I'm jealous.

Don't forget Winston and Central are not the old. They now can have as many scholarship as we can. We are on the same playing level. I think those days where we use to blow them out are gone. We just need to recruit better and not lose players to them head to head. Coach Hicks use to tell me never lose players that are going to schools you will be playing on the schedule. Thats unacceptable.

Did-cha-know, A&T could have had the chance to become the first 1-AA football team to upset a top 10 ranked 1A football team. Could you see A&T on the cover of Sports Illustrated as being the team that shocked the world. Back in 1999 or 2000, AD Scandrett had a oral agreement to play Nebraska I believe in 2000 or 2001 for $425,000 that included the A&T band coming also. Coach Hayes was nervous as heck when he was told about the game and of course he wasn't for it. Chancellor Renick made the call and decided not to play Nebraska. Chancellor Renick thought it wouldn't be fair to the A&T football players to play a D-IA powerhouse team and of course he did not want to see a huge shellacking shown and talked about all over national sporting news.

I'd heard Scan tried to get us to play BYU too.
Honestly I think he just was trying to get Hayes fired.
