Yes! That is really what it is all about - participating in & winning the FCS championship. As it has been stated numerous times on this forum, it takes money to run a ultra-successful FCS football program. Our marketing efforts need to be improved greatly. We need to ask other Aggies to put their money where their mouth is & donate. As much as my fingers hurt typing this, we should move away from playing Division II opponents just for money (WSSU should not be the only school that will help sell out our stadium). The entire seating bowl should be the 'home' side.
I know this subject has been beaten to death. But am I wanting and/or wishing for too much? Wishful thinking? Out of touch with reality?

I understand everyone's "lets stop playing Div2 WSSU" analysis, but until we start selling out conference games and some non-conference games why drop someone that already sells the stadium out? Just doesn't make sense. At least get a money game with an FBS school every year first.
After we start selling out Howard, Del State, Hampton, etc then I'm down for dropping WSSU, but not before. Shoot, let get near 17-19K in attendance for those games first please.
You cant give up money and then complain about not having any. No one complained about playing them when we were kicking the %$@ out of them. Now that their good we are scared.
I know this is no ones on this board decision, but you cant justify dropping WSSU when the opponent you replace them with is VUL, JCSU, or some out of state FCS school. The opponent SHOULD be a FBS school or an in-state FCS school. So if we drop ALL Div 2 opponents and play one of the latter then I'm for it. But Noooooo, we will play some cupcake to open the season or in week 2 so Broadway can get his "fluff" win. Hilton dont let it happen. Do the right thing and play WSSU or drop ALL Div2 opponents. Renew the Elon series, continue to play App and/or Coastal.
In my mind we were 4-6 and not 5-6. I dont count VUL, they were below div2 competition and a gloryfied scrimmage game.
What everyone is forgetting is that its about making the RIGHT decision for A&T long term and short term. Short term we have no other best case scenerio than playing WSSU. Long term we need to work on increasing our rivalry pool and OVERALL attendance.

Monster, great points. I believe WSSU should always be our first game of the season until either, A) attendance at the game drops below 10,000, B) we find an FCS team that can out-draw WSSU or C) WSSU gets the "big head" and wants too big of a "guarantee" to play us. In other words, as long as the WSSU game is a financial advantage for A&T, keep them on the schedule. Based on WSSU's performance last year and Bill Hayes desire to get the most for WSSU, we may have to step up and pay them a lot more to get on our schedule. I think they would like a piece of us just to show us and their fans that they are the top HBCU in North Carolina. But I don't think Bill will come cheap. Man, this would be a slam dunk sellout (if we had a damn decent marketing team) for this fall's first game. WSSU coming off a record season and A&T showing "potential" as a building team. I'm not sure if Broadway and the boys are ready but it would easy to hype this game!
As for the other division II games, if they don't put maximum butts in the seat, I say scrap them. Nobody will draw like WSSU so that should be our one and only Div II game. Now let's get us a top-notch marketing team and start marketing this fall's games now.

I agree.......right now our 3 biggest draws are: homecoming, WSSU, and NCCU.
Maybe our new marketing folks will be REAL hustlers instead of feet shuffling clowns....that will help out immensly.
Unfortunately, we (not me) are scarrred of WSSU so they will not be on da schedule next year. Hopefully, we can get a compromise financially in the future and when our team gets better and play them in 2013 because it's slow motion until then.
By the way, I know it's two sides to every opinion but I talked to "Wild Bill" last week. The scarred part of the equation did not come from him....trust, trust. GO AGGIES

"P"-I understand your focus and I agree with you on some of your points but I do know for a fact A&T does not want to play WSSU in football and basketball right now and it's not ALL about the money!! I'm not just coming off the cuff.....let me just say trust what I am saying. And I will go on record that I do not agree w/the reasoning. There is no benefit to playing them. We assume all the risks. We lose and our season is over

We should play WSSU until there is no question that they are out of our league. If they are selling out our stadium then we are fools to loose on the field and at the gate.
I agree we should up our competition to be successful in FCS, but until we have the funding and skill to compete we should dominate the level of play we are at. You cant put in the furniture without a floor.

There is no benefit to playing them. We assume all the risks. We lose and our season is over Skerd, LOL. Scared of what? We are trying to contend for the MEAC title and FCS championship. How does playing WSSU help us do either? We could schedule a team from the So Con , CAA, Big South, or any other conference which would help us gauge where we are as a program. WSSU is about money and tradition. We should never have to depend on another fan base to fill our stadium.
